I am a boat dealer and need to "pull the trigger" today on either a TC35D or 40D. I am getting a FEL but by far will mainly be using the tractor for it's 3 point hitch and towing boats around the yard from 18' to 35' long. I will also use it for bush hoggin the yard. Can anyone tell me any main advantages or disadvantages between the 3 and 4 cylinders? Thanks

Go with the 4 cylinder 40 hp. More torque. The $$ difference isn't a whole lot considering the total price of the tractor.

Ditto, the price jump is worth it here even if you only really need the smaller machine.

Am I wrong? I thought the TC35 and the TC40 were the same size frame? The only real size difference is the hp?

Same size running gear except the 35 is 3-cyl and the 40 & 45 are 4-cyl. The overall weight, hydraulic lift, and loader specs (due to the higher hyd. pressure) for the 40 and 45 are a little higher than the 35, also.

Mark, I think the TC35D would be fine, but the 40 and 45 have about 300 lb higher lift weight on the FEL and 3PH. They also are a little heavier. I don't think you'd notice the difference pulling boats around your lot. With a large boat and heavy tongue weight, you may need to put some ballast in the loader bucket, but I think you'll be happy with any of the Class IIIs. /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

I have to agree with Jim as I don't think you need the extra HP on this call. Moving boats doesn't require it and a light brush hogging will work fine with a 35 HP machine. If you're looking for a write off then thats a different story. /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

I would have to say go with the TC35. Unless you plan on using a lot of PTO dependent implements like a tiller, PHD, etc.. then you might want to go up to the 4 cyl. Otherwise I agree with PineRidge and jinman. Good luck! /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

It is, however, easier to go "Oooh oooh oooh oooh oooh oooh!" on a 40HP machine (ie Tim the Toolman)

That's true Laminarman. I had the same decision to make earlier this Spring but, if I was going to be doing what he's wanting the tractor for I would try and save a couple thousand and get the TC35. I'm just glad I'm not in his situtaion. It would be a tough decision to lay off the TC40. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif
