I have a TC33D that the PTO had been jumping out of gear. I've read posts suggesting that the problem was a detent spring and ball that I tried but without any success. I talked to two dealers who stated it was the PTO gears and although that was not what I wanted to hear I bought the gears. Upon tear down of the rear end the two gears [number 10 and 19 on parts page 07F01 - PTO Gears] were trashed. It's a little over three hundred dollar repair for the gears. Hopefully this will be helpful to others who are having this problem.

How difficult was the repair and did you need any special tools?

Any idea why the gears failed?

How many hours do you have on your tractor?

While I have not used my PTO much lately it has always worked fine in the past (knock on wood).

No special tools are required and it's not a hard job but time consuming especially for someone who has never split a tractor apart. The use of my rototiller and not adjusting the slip clutch on the PTO shaft is what is being mentioned as the root cause. The tractor has I think around 550 hours.
