New Holland TC30 Hydro 4x4, Gravely Zero Turn Mower
I was cleaning up a muddy mess on the adjacent lot next to my house and had to use the differential lock to get enough traction to drag the loader bucket in reverse to do some rough grading. After I drove back to my lot and made several turns, starts and stops, I realized that the diff lock pedal never returned to the upright position and I was tearing up my lawn /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

Went back and forth and kept kicking the foot lever to release the lock. Finally had to reach down and pull up with my hand to finally get the diff lock released. What gives ?

Something is not right. Mine either comes back on it's own shortly after releasing the pedal or certainly releases with a tap of one or the other brake pedals.

lubricate the shaft where it goes into the housing this should end your problem

Mine pops right back up as soon as I release my heel as it says in the manual. They do talk about the lock failing to disengage, but your issue sounds more like lubrication as spencer suggests.

By the way, could I get you to measure the outside diameter of your pto cover threads, someone ran over mine (no names please!) and I think that guy would be better off with a pipe nipple & cap if they are pipe threads!

There is a procedure in the manual that describes what to do if the differential lock won't release. It has to do something with driving slowly and tapping the individual right or left brake. Check your manual - I don't have mine at home to look it up and give you an exact quote.

If a TC30 has the same PTO cover as a TC35D, its not pipe thread. Its a bit over 2" pipe and appears to be a straight thread not a taper like on pipe fittings. They are pretty cheap though...I've already bought 1 !!! /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

I have a Ford 1910 and the dff. lock would not disengage. I had to open the differential case from the top (under the seat castiing 3 point lift arms that rotate) and free it up /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif Nothing was broke, just tight. A local dealer had the same experience. I got a gasket before hand and it was a 3-4 hour job. If I had to do it over I'd get a gasket for the transmission (regular gear) cover so I could have more thoroughly cleaned-up the metal shavings /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif
