Hi,
This is my first post, so I'll apologize now if I'm posting in the wrong spot. I've been reading the forum for about 2 months now. You guys are full of info and have been really helpful. I too, like 50% of all the other new guys on this forum am stuck deciding between two machines.
Finance options along with tractor specs will have input on which is purchased.
Either machine purchased will be set up with loader, 54"mmm, grass catcher and front mount snowblower.
I realize there're blue guys and there're orange guys, so I'm hoping to get some good info from both.
Any advice on any of the impliments mentioned used on either machine will be appreciated.
Thanks in advance
Mike

I would suggest you sit in both, run both and see which one fits! I chose a tractor that would allow seat height adjustment. I am 6'2" and one tractor would not allow adjustment of the seat height. After running a tractor with my knees on the air and no leg support, I said uncle and walked away. I would never buy a car that had no height adjustment in the driver’s seat, so I cannot buy a tractor that lacks height adjustment. After all, I will spend hundreds of hours in the seat, why would I choose to be uncomfortable.

BTW, I am color blind. I buy what works for me and fits.

I think most tractors are comparable. It is just my cranky old body that is different.

I have both blue and orange tractors so I think I can be unbiased in this choice.

Here is my take . . . let the tasks decide the tractor choices since the tractors are not equal, then each must be suited for something the other is not well suited for.

Your tasks will include lawn mowing and front snow blowing as well as some front loader work.

Lawn mowing does not require weight, in fact lighter tractors are better. Advantage Kubota.

Front mount snowblowers do not require weight, nor is there an advantage for lighter weight. Advantage NONE.

FEL work is a hands down winner for the NH. The capacity of the loader is superior. The visibility over the hood is superior.

So the questions you need to ask are HOW MUCH work will you need to do with the FEL and how heavy will the lifting be? If you are moving mulch around, both tractor will easily do that. If you are moving a lot of dirt or stone, then you will be able to carry more each trip with the NH and it will be easier to use the NH, but if most of your FEL tasks are going to be things like moving flats of annuals to your wife so she can plant them, then you don't need the NH's capability.

Also, if lawn mowing is a big deal to you and you really don't want any more weight on your lawn than is necessary, the Kubota is lighter and would be a better choice.

Also, which one do YOU like better? These are similar but not identical tractors. Both will do the jobs you want. One is slightly better at some tasks, but the other is slightly better at other tasks. It is also likely that the NH will cost more. Not sure if you are a super price sensative shopper or not, but that may be a consideration.

Like Bob said, sit on a drive both. Make sure you are comfortable with each/either of the dealerships. That should be a major factor in your decision. Because either tractor will do the tasks the same - though it looks like mowing and snow blowing will be the primary tasks.

Now I'll tell you how my decision. When I was looking I was set on a Kubota B7500 (the current model at the time). I knew of both dealers but had never visited either, had the same level of comfort/discomfort with each. So that took the dealership out of the equation for me.

So now it came down to the tractor and the price. Originally the Kubota was cheaper, but after talking with both dealerships a little bit more and understanding the NH dealer's price aleady included tax and pushing him a little bit he ended up so close in price it didn't matter. Then throw on top of the good financing NH had at the time it ended up becoming cheaper - though not enough to sway away from the Kubota - hadn't driven either yet at this point as neither dealer had one.

Finally the Kubota got one in that I could drive. I wasn't happy w/ how it was laid how. So my bubble had been burst a little bit. Started reconsidering the NH. Really didn't want a NH because of the old Ford relationship (I don't like Fords -- though I know their old tractors are tough to beat). But after going and driving the NH 24D. I was in love. It started easier, smoked less, and was quieter than either the 7500 or the JD 4115 I was also considering (though only briefly because of price). I was also more comfortable on the NH and the NH just seemed more "modern." Coupled with the sloped hood and loader arms it was just awesome. But I still wasn't ready to give up the Kubota. So I went back and started comparing specs - yet again.

The NH loader was stronger and a little bit bigger. The bucket was made a lot stronger (in my opinion) and looked like it would hold more. There was more 3PH lift capacity on the NH. The NH had a few more ponies to help with running the attachments (I know not really fair as I could have considered the Kubota 2410). I also liked the pedal system better on the NH. Finally I liked the fact that the NH was the old style construction instead of the ladder frame on the Kubota. Just seemed like a better set up to me. Though I'm sure it is fine. Finally the NH's weight came into factor. I knew for finishing mowing lighter is better, but for almost everything else weight is your friend - especially loader & boxblade type work. The NH eventually won. Of course, these are all my opinion and others have obviously come to the opposite conclusion but YMMV.

Now as far as implements I use. I have a 5' box blade and 5' scraper blade I use w/o problem. I run a 4' cutter but wish I had a 5' in it. I also use a homemade trailer mover and subsoiler with it. I've also used a post hole digger with it. It has been a good little tractor.

Just to further confuse the issue for you ( /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif) Case sells the same tractor as NH but with slightly different color paint ( RED) and more conventional looking headlights. Mechanically the two are identical unless you want the supersteer option which is NH only.

I mention this because the cost thing will give you another dealer to work with. Case is currently having a Big Red sale, which is worth up to $500 in some, umm, cases.

Personally, I eliminated the Kubota due to the seat comfort. I had an older small Kubota B7100 and loved the reliability and strength of the thing and was really thinking I'd just get a bigger one when I started looking. I was also convinced that I wanted to get gears instead of the more common hydro.

I'm also 6'2" like DocBob, and found the Kubota seat seemed to be tilted forward. I moved up to the 29 size CNH, which is only slightly larger than the 26 in width but actually shorter overall. It has a great seat, with useful suspension and support for my back. It looks a lot bigger than the 26 sitting on the lot, and it weighs quite a bit more. On the Kubota side, I'd compare it to the **30 series.

Pick out what will work for you, then get one size larger than you think you need -- you won't regret it.
