I got my TC 29D today. Already got in about 1.5 hours. I am having a great time and the tractor is everything and more than I expected so far. I tried to take off the plastic rear PTO cover. It would not budge. Am I doing something stupid? Do I just need to be more violent?

Well, so your plastic PTO cover won't budge...hmmm.... Might be cross-threaded since it is plastic. It should unscrew by turning it counterclockwise. If you can't do it with your hands, you might try a wrench, but I don't know how much pressure it will take. If I had to break it to get it off, I'd sure be asking my dealer for a replacement if I intended to ever put it back on. Good luck and enjoy your tractor, but remember to be careful. /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

As JimI said, it might be cross-threaded; mine is difficult to take off also. The threads are slightly deformed. I like to keep mine on because I don't use the PTO that often. Does anybody know of any metal replacement covers?

I was thinking about getting a pipe wrench on it. I could not quite yet bring myself to take the wrench to the clean shiny tractor. I will give the dealer a call. As always, thank all of you guys.

I'm not familar with your PTO plastic cover, so excuse my ignorance, but most I've seen just slips on the PTO tractor spline like a giant prophylactic...

I never seen one that screws on a spline...how?

The New Holland Compacts have a ring cast into the housing around the PTO shaft. About 3" I.D. on my TC33D if I recall. The inside of the ring is threaded, the outside of the PTO cover has a matching thread. The cover doesn't even make contact with the PTO shaft.

Thank you John...

I'll get a chance and look at one on the lot.

On the utility sized units, they just slip on...

A pair of channel locks should take it off, if it does break, get a new one under warrenty at your dealer.
