Tahoe diesel claims 80k payoff in diesel fuel economy

it's pretty close in the pickup. I've had the 3.0 in a crew cab 4x4 short-shortbed for about 21-22 months now. i haven't taken many readings lately, but i kept up for the first 15-20 tanks, and in warm-ish weather I can produce consistent 30mpg for my daily commute of a little under 100 miles on a combination of podunk back roads and US route 1, both 2 and 4 lane. when I hop on I95/I295 i struggle to get much better than 25mpg at 75~ish. Those are all non-towing, of course. Body payload doesn't seem to matter a lot. I hauled 2 loads of about 1600lb of new shingles a couple hundred miles and still pulled 30mpg for that tank. I did keep my foot out of it since that was a fairly good load for that truck and i didn't want to risk any sway. trailering 7k on an open trailer (5k tractor on 2k trailer) and I got about 16mpg on the highway at 65-75. my cargo trailer is the killer - 7x16 enclosed aluminum 2 axle with a total weight of no more than 3500lb with cargo and i get 13-14mpg. Still, the main use is passengers and body cargo, and with diesel here at roughly the same price as gas, it's been a good run so far.

I reset it every time I fill up and watch it religiously. It’s honest. Maybe your friends dog it too much! I drive 2 hours up into the mountains almost all highway 55-70mph (5500-8600 ft elevation gain total) then back down. That is 23 mpg. I do it every week.
Was your mileage (coasting more maybe) coming down raising the overall mileage than if all on normal flat land? Not trying to dispell your claim. Back in the 70's had a E250 Ford van, going down to Florida from Michgan. One tank was the best I ever got. Then I realized I had a heck of a tail wind helping me along. Jon

I test drove a 2021 Denali 1500 with the inline Duramax and it was very impressive. It was my first choice, the driveline that is, but I couldn't deal with the dated interior and the silliness of the options. I did not want a sunroof but wanted other upscale options but the sunroof and other options were packaged. I also was interested in Ford's little Powerstroke but never found one to test drive and now I understand Ford no longer offers it. I ended up with RAM's ECODiesel, and I am equally impressed with this engine and, RAM allowed me to get the technology options without a darn sunroof.

As far as MPG, it is nearly impossible to compare like vehicles simply because of individual driving styles. For example, when my wife had a 2008 Tahoe, her average MPG was 3.4 MPG less than when I drove it.

So, my average MPG on my 2015 RAM 3500 Cummins SRW is 24 MPG empty. Pulling 16,000 pounds, between 11 and 13 MPG. The ECODiesel is averaging 29.6 MPG and I have yet to tow a 5K boat with it but I'm expecting, from others' experiences, better than 13 MPG. In my 2013 RAM 1500 Hemi, I averaged 17 MPG. My wife's 2.4L Equinox, she averages 26 MPG.

Our 7.3 F250 with a lightweight popup camper gets about 15 to 16 mpg hwy & 12/13 in town. Always has.
The reliability far outweighs the mpg cost of fuel.

Sounds like many if not all of you here are talking about the fuel mileage the vehicle's computer is showing.

It’s a good point. Always have to hand calculate to verify….

I hand calculated mine a few times to verify what the computer told me and they compared within 0.1 mpg.

My 7.3 f350 dually gets about the same. But I rarely drive it for in town trips, most of it's mileage is with towing a trailer between Alexandria, Va and Fulton, Ms. I got the big truck to do work, not carry groceries.

Assume this is based on what was on the lot? Mine is a 2020, LT, $53,120 sticker. i suspect once you get as far as a Denali you can't go without too many options. monroney lists Z71, All star edition, diesel, convenience package 2, and brake controller which is exactly the build i wanted. was lucky that they could get this next day in a dealer swap at under 100 miles away. I added floor mats, bed mat, mud flaps, step tubes and a tonneau, so it wasn't everything i wanted when it arrived, but everything that should be pre-installed.

not exaggerated at all. hand calc'd the first 15-ish tanks to compare. i did a thread on it here back when i got it. without digging back to find the thread, I got equal or higher by the hand calculation pretty much every tank when compared to the on-board meter. GM does a "best 50 mpg" on one of the dash widgets. my best 50 is 37.2mpg. i fall of the 30 pace in the winter, course, i start and pre-heat 10 minutes daily, and we're on winter blend here. no way to tell if that makes a real difference or not since there are so many other factors too - temp & starting way early. it's also near impossible to perfectly fill to the same point every time, but when you go multiple tanks in a row at 30, then you're pretty confident. I only got over 31 one time, and it was followed by a 29.x, so i can't really say i got 31 for certain. could have been a fill difference.
