Tag fee shock!!!

Here we have personal property tax on anything with a tag, plus mobile homes and double wides.

We have a $25 tag fee for vehicles, not sure on boats, or motorcycles.

Trailers have a permanent tag. It becomes invalid if taxes aren't assessed and paid on it each year.


09 Sierra 1500 4x4- $25 tag fee plus $115 in taxes.

2011 Jeep wrangler unlimited sport.
$25 tag fee, $125 in taxes.

2010 Dakota landscape trailer $15 in taxes.

My camper i sold last year was $45 in taxes each year with the permanent tag.

Here in Quebec they penalize U for a V8, penalize U for demerit points and then U have to 'contribute' to a victim's fund.
Plus all that is taxed as well.
Now to collect from that fund they had to actually arrested the perp.

I was once broken into ($500 or so claim) and they caught the perp but then advised me not to make a fund claim as in all probability the perp would get revengeful*.
Besides that 'victims fund' is above and beyond what insurance paid out. AKA another form of cash grab.

* said fund is actually a form of cash advance as the perp must reimburse any payouts, so you only benefit if they can catch the perp.
So in the case of a 'hit and run' you are out of luck.

One good thing is DIY trailers under 1000 lb capacity, fee is a mere $30 and that's lifetime, heavy trailers need annual inspections and over 1000 need a braking system.
(naturally U see dual axle 5 x 20 trailers with the simple $30 tag every so often)

Back in the '70's Ontario had a 'hunter's tag', that was for a clunker used to seasonally hunt/fish and valid for only 30/40 miles from your registered home, also no needs for inspection either. That tag was in the $20/30 range.
