Check your connections first,sounds like you may have a bad tach sender,if not you have to replace the complete panel .I think they use the same panel as the Jinma.Let me know if we can help.

That makes it more difficut (and more expensive). Before replacing an entire cluster just because of an inop tach, check out the sending unit wire. Haven't worked specifically on a TS254, but typically the sending units are mounted in a hole in the bellhousing and are triggered by the ring gear teeth on the flywheel. It's typically no bigger round than a quarter, and sticks out perhaps an inch. It should have a single post, to which the sending unit ground wire is attached.lakespirit said:
Trace out the wire, making sure it's intact all the way to the back of the cluster. If the wire looks ok, go back to the sending unit. It should be held to the bellhousing with a threaded locking collar. First loosen the nut that holds the wire, then loosen the collar. Remove the sending unit and inspect the tip. It may have been struck by the flywheel teeth. If not, clean and reinstall - turning it till it's stopped by the ring gear. Back it out about 3/4 turn, lock it in place with the collar, tighten the nut on the wire post. Start the engine and see if the tach works.
If not, first replace the sending unit. It's a helluva lot cheaper than the cluster gauge.

Realistically speaking, I don't need the tach since you can tell by the revs, just like shifting a car, but since I only have 60 hours on the unit I figured I want it to work. Any reason you can think of as to why I MUST have the tach?

Pto speed... for one..
MPH.. ( groundspeed) determined by gear range and pto speed... Some items like seeders and sprayers will be sensitive to pto speed and groundspeed.
( you do realize that generally.. you don't shift on the fly in a tractor.. )

Took the sensor out of bell housing and it's shot. Wiring looks OK.

How did you determine that it was shot? I was told there pretty tough. A little contact with the flywheel will not kill them.

There is no tip on it. It is ground down to where the threads start. I turned it inward towards the fing on flel and got some momentary rpm, but am not able to sustain readings on tach.
