Spotted several new T80's and the JD dealer in town. Anyone know anything about them? Could this be the model Yanmar was talking about bringing in the country for vinyard work in calif. Lots of vinyards in the area so that is what I'm thinking but don't really know.

Mickey,

Yes. The T-80 was tested, leased and finally purchased with several wineries including Mondavi, in the Napa Valley and coastal areas.

All the same tractors. Some tested were 35, 50 and 75 HP, and all prefered the steering wheel vs. the tiller...so they all are imported with the regular steering. I've heard that 'Rainbow Agriculture' got the jump and is the number one importer / west coast dealer.

I was in Calistoga last week and drove by Rainbow Ag but they did not have any Yanmars on the lot. Lots of John Deere though. I sort of figured I would have seen some there since that is the top of the Napa Valley. I think they have another outlet in Ukiah so maybe that is where they all are.

As I indicated on MTF I'll post a few pics when I can next week. I'm still wondering why the JD dealer has these when the IH/Case dealer just down the road is an authorized Yanmar dealer and has none of them. The JD dealer is a lot larger and old line dealer and up to this point I've never seen anything other than JD when it comes to tractors. The only Yanmars I've seen at this dealership have have been masquerading as JD's.

Here are a few pics of the T80 the local dealer has.

I saw a T80 parked by the side of the road yesterday on my way back from the dump. I only had my camera phone with me, so the photo quality isn't so good. It had a Rainbow Ag sticker on it. It must have had a (really) flat tire, because the right rear was sitting on top of a hydraulic jack. It looked like a pretty slick piece of equipment, but was out of commision for one reason or other.

What's the device on the back of that T80 by the roadside?

I couldn't see what was in the middle of the implement, but there was a roller on the back to flatten the soil at the back end. Maybe a tiller/roller for weed+erosion control?

It is a chopper/shredder, like a brush hog but instead of blades it uses hammers on the ends of chains.

Was down to the JD dealership yesterday and spoke with one of the sales guys and picked up some lit on the T80.

From what I was told, no official relationship between JD and Yanmar for these machines but Yanmar is making a push with JD dealers as there has been a long term relationship via the Yanmar built JD's. Was told the engine and trans for the T80 was the same as used on the JD 5xxx tractors so JD dealers already have some parts and shop experience with the equipment.

The T80 has a turbo 4cyl engine of 3.3L displacement with 80HP. Sales guy said they sold one of these last week to one of the local nurseries farms for spraying. Very low contract pressure @ 2.9psi. The 3pt lift is rated for 4400 lbs.

The steering wheel steering is very interesting. refer to the pic for a discription of how it all works.

Mickey,

What was the price range on T80? I wonder if it would be a practical tractor in steep terrain. The reason I ask is, I have a second home in the NC mountains and the grade is 45deg.+ in places. Seems like using tracks would be better than a 4wd tractor using tires.

Sorry Hobo, I didn't make an enquiry about price as I'm not interested in anything like this. I agree that a track machine would be better on steep inclines. The lit show the machine working in hilly country but nothing like 100% grade.

Try here, http://www.yanmar.com/tractor/dealerlocator.asp?PROCESS=Y&STATES=NC for dealer or dist in NC. They can help you with info on this model.

Does anyone know if the T-80 would work on slopes? Have an attachment that we want to use more on slope conditions in erosion control and landscaping. Any dealers in WI or Illinois?
