Scooby thanks for the tip on the lube. I have some stick Accu-Lube T-B and I never thought to try it on the band saw. Have only used it drilling stainless.

Yep, that good stuff, use it on table saw table. Any ideas on removing rust from BS blades?
Rick, have you tried it on your BS blades? If your rust isn't out of control then this does the cleaning (solvent) and protecting (paraffin wax). As you probably know, developed for aerospace by the Boeing Company but is now widely used in marine/industrial markets.

If you have a lot of rust, you might want to try 'pre-treating' your blades with white vinegar. Soak them for a while and wipe off then apply BoeShield. Vinegar is cheap and safe and organic. Anyways I am a fan of vinegar except in my salad!

I did try attempting to soak one blade in EvapoRust but, while trying to "fold" it up to get into a basin it kicked my ***** and cut the crap out of my arms when it got loose. These thing, are 105" long, never ending, mean snakes. Very docile, when on the BS but, try to put them into small loop for storage (or rust removal) and they want a fight to the finish.

Yup, about two cuts in a log and they are "shining" again!

Rob, I'll try that. I have some 24" seasoned white oak logs, about 6-8" diameter, that I want to try cutting up, on the bandsaw, to make some picture frame parts.

Thanks

Ha, ha, well not really funny... been there. My BIL was telling a story just a couple days ago about his time at PSNS (Puget Sound Naval Shipyard) wood shop, having to wrestle giant bandsaw blades about 12in width and maybe 3/16in thick. He stood up and demonstrated some kind of hula maneuver to coil it. I got a good laugh!

Once shining, just wipe them down with an oily rag or they will rust right back up...

I have no problem coiling 144" bands, you just have to watch some you-tubes to see how it's done...

Yeah, it takes a lot of "Body English" to get one folded. When I get one out, I loosen the ties, throw it over my shoulder and run in opposite direction. Come back 5 minutes later, check to see if it's done moving, and install.

Thanks Rob. I've watched the videos several times but lacking a 3rd hand I'm starting to believe it would be easier to just have a bandsaw for each size blade.

Just a update.
Here are a couple free hand cuts I made on some 1/2" mild plate 5"wide with a 10-14 TPI blade and a blade speed of about 285 SFPM. I am really happy with the saw and table.
