around here and much of the south..."dinner" is a mid day meal...supper is an evening meal...

Dinner is what some consider lunch. But we use these terms interchangeably.
Supper, to us, is the evening meal.
I'm a bit confused as to what "main meal" means.
Same here and there's no supper! Might add dessert or late night snack if I'm lucky.Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner. In that order.
While growing up in NC, my mother prepared a main (full) meal that were served at noon and was called "dinner." The evening meal often consisted of leftovers (but with freshly baked biscuits) and was called "supper." Steve
