SuperTrap mufflers work?

"Sounds"(pun intended) like somehting I may be interested in! Was there a specific model to this that you ordered..maybe Santa will bring me one...or better yet the Great Pumpkin could make a visit!

I ordered the 3" unit as the 5" would not fit. The inlet size was the one that matched the outlet of of the exhaust. I used the hose clamp to initially hold it on, but after a half-hour of stump griinding it fell off. VERY noticible increase in noise when that happened. I reattached it with a couple of screws until I can get a chance to weld it.

You install discs in this muffler according to HP. It uses 1 disc for each 3 HP. For my 22 HP PT, 7 discs would've probably been fine, but they come in packs of 3 so I used 9.

No perceptible change in power, VERY obvious change in noise. Sounds about like a normal riding mower now.

I posted the photo in the PT forum under "a quieter PT422".

The Supertrap is worth it IMHO, although it's still noisy it is at a level closer to normal lawn tractors now.

Was wondering if you have "permanently" attached the Super Trap yet and if you are still satisfied with the results? /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

I haven't welded it on yet (MIG is on my Santa list; antique buzz-box or oxy-acetylene are my only choices now). It was somewhat loose fitting with just the two screws, so I put a hose clamp on over the top flange just above the screws and it is solidly mounted for the time being.

I'm quite happy with the noise reduction still, and would buy it again (for my next PT?!).
