Hey all. Long story short. A friend’s Super A has been sitting in my barn for about 3 years. 2 months ago I sprayed either into it just to see if it would start and it fired up immediately. The throttle worked then but the engine wouldn’t stay running. Yesterday I cleaned the junk out of the carb and got it running, but the throttle no longer works. The governor rod that goes to the carb will stay in any position you set it at. Its hard to move, but will stay in any position you set it. Wide open or idle. Moving the throttle side does nothing. Anyone have any idea what might have happened to it? Hard to fix? Any help would be appreciated.

Sounds like the governor assembly is stuck. I have not wokred on one on an A so I can not really tell you how to go about it, sorry.

A friend talked to me yesterday. He said the governor is rusted. The governor gets oil from the engine and that I need to change oil and fire it up. Then just keep moving it back and forth and it should eventually start to work again. I haven’t had a chance to do this and may not get a chance. My friend is so happy that it’s running that he may come and get it.

I believe the governor is under a cover on the front of the engine. Whether it will free up or not ? And yes it should be lubricated by the engine sump oil.

Well, I ran this thing about two hours yesterday. Throttle still won’t work. The gov rod will now snap back if you manage to get it into the wide open position. Even if the throttle is set at wide open. Plus the tractor won’t turn to the right very much for some reason. Turns to the left perfect. And the hydraulic levers keep falling back letting the cultivators drop down. Kind of a beast to drive with no throttle and having to hold the hydraulic levers up coupled with the fact it will hardly turn right.
