Sucker Rod Grabber

Thought I'd try this over here I saw one of these years ago perhaps as a diagram. My well casing is 2" steel and I need to raise the sucker rod about 8 to 12 inches to see if the threads on the joint are history or not. The pics online these days are so small an 8 year old couldn't decipher them. Can anyone point me in the right direction please? I don't know the top dimension of the coupling but it's a bit over an inch probably. The hole takes a 5/8s bolt. These are just a section of pipe that will fit in the casing around the sucker rod and capture it when you pull up on it.

are you talking about lifting the rod as in an open top cylinder, If it is a closed top cylinder I doubt if you can lift it much as the piston in the pump will catch on the top of the cylinder, and not let come up any more,

I did make a retriever one time out of some exhaust tubing, cut a slot across the pipe about 5" up from the bottom and then two side slots and bent that piece in so it would spring over the coupling an catch the rod,

or are you trying to catch a rod in the well,

as for pulling the sucker rod I made a L shaped piece and cut a slot the same as the sucker rod and a small pipe to slip a bolt through so it can not fall out, and a Loop on the long end of the L to pull it from,

I do not have a picture of the retriever, I thought I had a picture of the sucker rod puller but do not, but is similar but smaller to this type of pipe elevator, but on the sucker rod I made mine so it was open on the front,
