Oil & Fuel Subj: GAS HOG

/ Subj: GAS HOG #2
No different than any other V-twin LT/GT. About 1.5 acres/gallon is typical.

If we're talking gas hog, my 1872 with the Magnum 18 is about twice as thirsty as the Command 25 in the 5252.

I was amazed the first few times I mowed with the 5252.

My 1864 with the Command-18 is most definitely NOT a Yaris :)

Surprising, the V-twins have about as low a fuel consumption for a small engine as one can get. They should easily outshine any single of equal horsepower.

When I replaced the KT17 Kohler opposed twin with the V-twin Honda, the fuel consumption has just about cut in half. That KT really was a gas hog. I figure the gas savings will allow the Honda engine to pay for itself over it's lifetime. (Man-reasoning...had to justify blowing the cash somehow ;) )

No doubt about it. The Kohler K-series 8hp in our old JD 110 used about the same amount of fuel as as my Kohler Command 20hp. The Magnum horizontally opposed twins or briggs of the same orientation were HORRIBLE gas hogs. Flat heads just cant lean out as well without melting valves.
