If the kids were out detonating the soda bottles in their backyard in a hole in the ground, then I would say busting them is a bit much. But when they decided to take their adventure out into the community, they crossed the line.

They crossed the line allright when they brought this act into my family's yard. They are very lucky. Hopefully they realize that now that they have had some time to think about it.

I have faith it will all work out the way it is supposed to

This is a tough situation. I know my dad used to tell me about the time him and his buddy blew up a mailbox with an M80. They were caught and had to replace the mailbox and probably both got a good beating at home. This is how it should be handled, in my opinion.

I'm sure I'd call the police in a similar situation, but unless the kids involved were known 'punks', I'd sure feel bad if criminal charges were brought against them. I'd feel much better about them learning a lesson and me getting some satisfaction if the police made them replace my mailbox and I had a good notion that their fathers put the 'fear of god in them', as it were.

I sure can't fault your actions in response to the exploding mailbox and the police were just doing what they have to do. It's just a shame that the police don't have the flexibility to do the 'right' thing versus 'what they have to do'.

Make sense?

If you see your friend "Jack" at the airport... Don't say "Hi"...

Two or three kids together will do things that none of them would even consider if they were by themselves. Just the nature of he beast. I know I was the same way back then. Did some things in a group that I _knew_ was wrong but...

If we had a draft these kids would not be on the street looking for trouble.
Or they would be in school trying real hard to avoid the draft

The service has a way of making an attitude go away real fast when you're digging ditches.

Why they might even learn how to have respect for elders, yes sir , no mam.

I agree with your assessment on how the service can help shape a wayword youngster, but until they make a draft for everyone -- including senator and congressman's sons and daughters, put me down as against it...........

I think the right thing was done here, it's not the same world as when we were growing up, where a look or a word from your father (or pretty much any adult) carried so much weight. Nowadays, you just have to protect yourself in so many ways, and the best way is to have the law enforcement officers handle it........

I certainly wouldn't feel bad about the charges. It may seem a bit excessive but that is the nature of the world today. I've seen the same sort of terrorism charges brought on people for bottle bombs at least a dozen times. They should know that that stuff is taken very seriously these days. What if your daughter lost an eye or worse? I also agree with many of the back-in-the-day things but times R-A-changing. You could just as easily say back in my day we used to play grab-@$$ with all the secretaries at work and it's no big deal

When I was a kid, "lawn jobs" were big. A lawn job for you that have not heard of it, is when you drive through one's lawn spining your tires. A house down the street was on a corner and the poor guy got it every Friday night. He'd call the police but nothing ever came of it. One weekend he got the idea to place several 2x4s with 16p nails all over. He set them out late Fri night before bed. Next morning he found a car a few blocks away with 4 flat tires.

Police wern't required, he solved the little problem his way
