I agree with you 100% Phil. They should be concerned about the safety of the person operating their equipment and not about property damage.I reversed my cutter blade and I have never changed it back. I'm concerned and responsible for my own safety, and I have liability insurance to cover property damage and injury to others.

Sorry for the late post.

They may be hoping that you modify the equipement. If you modify the equipement, you take full responsibility for any bad outcome. They have the perfectly valid legal defense that you defeated the safety engineering.

Now here is the scary part. Your liability insurance also has the same defense and can elect not to cover incurred damages.

If that were not scary enough, law enforcement could look at such modifications as passing beyond negligence and entering the area of willfull harm or damage.

Okay, I do see the glass as half empty.

I guess I forgot to mention way back when I replied to that thread that I added a substantial shield to the stump grinder ( when I reversed the cutter blade ) to contain any flying debris to within the stump cutting area. It worked quite well and it kept me from eating a face full of wood chips, stones, metal, or any other buried treasures. :D SEE ATTACHMENT!

That is a substantial shield.

I hang around too many lawyers, you should be fine.

It's nice to see that all the chips and debris is being thrown away from the machine and operator. :D
