Greetings,

Looking for any recommendations on a stump bucket. Tractors are Kubota LX2610 and Yanmar LX490. I want something strong but do not want to overload the tractor or damage the loader.

Here is what I plan on doing, I am starting to reclaim some fields that have about 20-25 years growth of scrub trees, probably 20 acres or so. Back in the day I used to hay the field and am trying to bring it back to its former beauty. Right now there is small clump scrub trees that are shallow rooted. The field isn't completely covered with scrub trees but there is probably easily 100 or more of them. Some bigger than others. I have a large brush hog on the 4320 J-D but the trees are mostly too big for that. I plan on doing most of the pulling in the springtime when the field is wetter. I have used a slip chain, brush grubber and the bucket to remove some trees already. Those process are slow. The clump trees are hard to get down and around with a chain without crawling on the ground. I also looked at getting a toothed attachment for the bucket but feel that a specific stump bucket attachment would be better. The trees come out fairly easily as they are mostly shallow rooted.

Anyone use this manufacturer?

Thanks for any input
Sean

Gee, I had to idea they made these! Silly question, would a subsoil hook pull them out if you lift it, as you put forward pressure on a root bulb?

I think you'd be very pleasantly surprised by what a custom Wicked Toothbar(click the link) would do for ya. It will strengthen your bucket and greatly promote ripping/grubbing/digging ability.
I'll post some user feedback.

I can't see where a stump bucket would be any better than a good set of forks adjusted to the middle. But I've only used skid steers. Also you can use forks for many things. I mean, we have large tractors and skid steers. I would use a hydraulic tractor, but we've never had one. The skid steer with forks, I can do 100 trees an hour one foot at base and smaller. Just pops them up. After that hour, adjust forks wide and make neat piles. Try that with a stump bucket.

Tractor with a clutch, I'd be pulling with a chain, unless you love buying clutches. I'd cut the smaller trees off at ground. Pull up bigger ones. Run a disc breaker over it.

A stump bucket has no use on a tractor IMO. A FEL is quite dinky compared to other equipment and isn’t made for that abuse. The risk of bending cylinders or even arms is quite high.

Although I personally don't have it, I really like Artillian's system from what I saw of it. Basically, they have a ssqi plate with attachment points on it for their pallet forks, stump buckets, and I think grapple too (don't quote me on that). I really like this system for their stump buckets, coz you could mount them pointed up or down. There's a dude on youtube, Biff's equipment I think, he used it with the stump bucket mounted upside down, he did some handy stuff with it.

Pulling those trees or digging them will leave holes and it takes time. You might be better off overall to hire someone with a forestry mulcher to grind up the trees and not have to deal with the holes or possibly tearing up your tractor. Or hire a dozer.

Thanks for the replies

I like the idea of the wicked toothbar. Although it seems not hard to remove having a designated bucket for it might be easier. Definitely an option.

I pulled a few out with my forks but I did not want to bend them. It's the worst when you go to lift pallet and one fork is bent. I will try adjusting to the middle and doing carefully for a test.

I agree that the FEL could be damaged easily on a small tractor. If the consensus is not to put a stump bucket on i wont.

The artillian looks like good stuff. Thanks

I like the idea of a forestry mulcher on the next project that is hillside. This one is mostly flat land. Yes there will be holes but the plan being possibly plow the field and replant at some point? Will see.

I cleared out a lot of grub brush/smallish trees on the outskirts of a former hay field with a hydraulic post puller mounted on a quick attach adapter on my 3 point. 3 point has lots of lifting power and a tree has much less resistance when pulling straight up. 1538 Mahindra 38hp . It is slow but much safer and less chance of tractor damage.
