Stuck in cold, no block heater

In northern MN the logging equipment have ports on the raidiator hoses.

Drive into the woods, run a couple hoses from the vehicle you drove in with to the machine you want to start, open the valves, drink coffee, shut valves and disconnect hoses, climb into easy starting and warm machine..

I heard about the heater hose trick but wonder how hard that is on the block of both machines,-20 to 180 is quite a shock !

A guy I work with talks about his son in Alaska with a diesel truck that has a mechanism to start it and run it every 3 hours for a few minutes to keep it warm.

I guess it quit working once when they were caribou hunting in temperatures below -40 F. The rest of the story involved something about split batteries and propane canisters in sleeping bags.

Some of the big $$$$ remote starters have that feature. Simple as programming the times in, and you are off.

I have seen LP block heaters on off road well drilling rigs, looks like a pretty good answer.
