What would cause a 3 point hitch to stick in the up position?

Check that the follow-up rod nut has not backed off.

The positon control lever is connected to the hydraulic valve which controls the three point hitch. Mhassett was refering to the rod linkage from your lever to the valve. Check your linkage to see if a nut came off or loosened up, if it did it will not allow your lever to actuate the valve.

Could also be the 3ph drop rate valve is closed off. Most tractors have it just below the seat/between your legs. Turn it counter clockwise and see if the hitch drops.

What kind of tractor? Different tractors have different idiosyncrisies (sp?).

I will check those things. It is a Massey Ferguson 130.
