Stuck Clutch

Today I went to start my 850 which had been sitting for several months and discovered the clutch was stuck in the engaged position. I put the transmission in "1" strated the engine and it cleared itself. Anyone have any idea why this happened and more importantly how to prevent it from happening again.

Must be a 'dry' clutch, probably stuck dew to surface rust.

My new 790 came with a 'clip' to keep the clutch engaged for prolonged storage.

You could setup something similar or use a stick, clamp, visegrips, etc...

Thanks for the input. It looks like the clip will keep the clutch disengaged--right? You are right in that I should be able to rig something up myself that will do the job.
