Hi, I have a new noise issue with my summit tractor. It's a sound I have not heard until recently. When just releasing the reverse pedal the tractor makes a deep clacking sound. It makes the sound in 2wd or 4wd. Does not make this sound in forward speed when I release the pedal. Not sure if its coming from the flywheel or the front axle or??? If I release the reverse pedal very slowly the tractor does not make the sound but have to release the pedal very slowly. Have just under 75 hours on the tractor. The 50 hour maintenance was performed on schedule and all fluid are at the required levels. Any suggestions. Thanks

I have a second issue which recently appeared. I place the tractor in neutral, setting the emergency brake but when I get off the seat the tractor shuts off as through the brake is not set. I noticed when I set the brake sometimes the dashboard light is not on and that is when the tractor shut off issue occurs. I am pulling the brake up as far as I can and sometimes the dashboard light comes on and sometimes it does not. Any suggestions.

Call Summit. It’s a known issue if I’m reading your post correctly.

There’s a metal guard or shield over the u-joint that spins directly below your feet underneath the footwell.

Under certain circumstances the shield can come in contact with the u-joint and it makes an awful racket. Like really awful.

You can access the shield by removing the rubber floor mat. The shield is an arched piece of metal with one bolt on each side.

I don’t have the measurements handy, but look for something about 12 inches x 3 inches x 1/4 inch thick.

I spoke to Summit when it occurred on my TX25. I believe they’re working on an updated part, but I haven’t heard anything about it other than that.

In the meantime, my solution was to bend the part so that it cleared the u-joint.

Hope that helps.

May I ask. The noise that you were getting, was it constantly or like in my case only happening under certain circumstances. I will check out what you told me. I suppose I can just remove the shield temporarily to see if the noise is gone and if so bend and re install.

Thanks, isleview for your advice. My issue was what you suggested. When the tractor is making the knocking noise, and you place your hand on the rubber floor mat just below the ignition switch you can feel the knocking vibration. It's a quick fix if you are handy. I removed and bent the u-joint cover plate and re-installed. Just to be safe, I over bent the plate but, upon doing so I had to trim the bottom of the plastic housing which covers the wires located below the ignition switch with a jig saw (removing it from the tractor first of course). You can bend the plate less, but I wanted to make sure there was a lot of clearance between the u-joint and the cover plate. Take your time pulling the plastic fasteners to remove the rubber mat so to re-use.
