the stones and sand will be plowed into a windrow and the stone picker will be towed behind the tracktor. a scoop will chanel the windrow onto a conveyer and into the rotating screen drum and the stones will be deposited out the back end into a hopper while the sand falls through the screen

After looking at your pictures, I'm starting to think it wouldn't take much to build a small trommel screen. I've been trying to figure out how to build something for screening topsoil (40-50 yards at a time) and your project is giving me all kinds of ideas. Thanks!!!

the end rings are made of 24" 1/4" wall pipe and the screen is 3/4" expanded metel rolld to 24"

material costs for the screen was about $250 with rolling of the expanded metal

Hmmm that looks interesting... i was just thinking of building my own sheet steel roll to roll a turbine housing for a straw chopper i was going to build, but seeing this makes me realise that i need a wider roller to be able to build a cylinder screen like this... We have a big heap of topsoil with stones, dug from a dirt road that was paved last year that needs to be screened.

How are you going to power it ? i think i will make mine direct PTO drive, using the ground speed PTO of a Zetor 2011 (while the high/low range lever is in neutral so tractor doesnt move)
1st gear will give 280 rpm full throttle, so when idling at 1000 rpm it will do just 140 rpm... hmm your pics just triggered some thoughts... ;)

Oh, if you're looking for a way to drive it from the PTO without effecting the screening effect by centrifugal forces ;) you could just place a shaft with a belt pulley close to it and run a long belt over the outer circumference of the screen drum.. A V belt is designed to clamp into a V slot to generate enough friction, but the 3/4 circumference of the sieve cylinder that is in contact with the belt, will have loads of friction i guess :)

If you blocked the exit of the rocks, you could use this implement as a giant lapidary and sell polished rocks by the road...

As long as your working with a windrow of material wouldn't it be as simple to build a rock bucket with 3" tine spacing and add a dump box vibrator to shake off the dust dumping them on a trailer ? Looks like alot of engineering going on with your project. Good luck.

Sounds like an arrowhead harvester.
