Yanmar 2002
Well I got back home after a short absence and found that someone had stolen my Yanmar 2002 w/ FEL and 4' mower! So if you happen to see one crop up for sale somewhere, please let me know as I miss my baby :( I'll have to look and see if I have its serial number to post online.

Thanks for reading and a Merry Christmas to all!

Stolen on Christmas Eve, what a bummer.
I have read some of your previous post and see you are in law school with ambitions of becoming a prosecutor. I salute you but just in case you don't know how it works in the real world, here goes: Do file a Police report. You need to try to find the serial number so that it can be entered into NCIC as a stolen item. I don't think it can be entered without a S/N. The S/N off the engine will suffice. That way, if any Police Officer in the United States runs the serial number it will come up as stolen. Also, any pictures and anything that is unique about the tractor will be helpful. Politely insist on a copy of the Police report and verification that it has been entered into NCIC. Someone with the law enforcement agency that knows what they are doing is going to have to take a few minutes to enter it correctly or the system will just kick it out. Time is of the essence because if someone stops them while it is in transport they will have no way of knowing it is hot if it is not in NCIC. Check your homeowners policy as it or a portion may be covered. If it is recovered or if you find out your good buddy decided to borrow it without asking and didn't think you would mind make sure it is removed from NCIC or you may find yourself having to do a lot of explaining one day. Good luck finding your tractor and I will keep an eye out here in Louisiana.

I was just gonna ask if anybody got any tractor stuff for Christmas.
Looks like somebody did.
What a bum way for them to get it though!
This stinks.

While it's highly unlikely you'll ever see it again, it would be prudent to 1. post the serial #, and 2. email and/or fax every dealer in your general region with the serial #. Be prepared to provide clear proof of purchase/ownership which includes the serial # just in case it shows up. I would include as much description as possible with the SN, such as brand of loader, type/brand of mower, and anything else distinctive.

YM2002, while not rare, is one of the less common models.

I'm currently looking for a 2002D to purchase. I look everyday to see what's available. If it makes it on the net, I should find it. Pics and numbers would help. You may want to contact the larger parts stores to alert them of your missing tractor. When I bought my tractor, I fixed all the little things that needed attention. GOOD LUCK and keep us posted. I have a feeling it will show up somewhere.

I can't help thinking that this wasn't a common smash and grab. This crime had to be planned for some time. Cruiz'in around with an enclosed trailer looking for a tractor to steal, just doesn't make sense. Find the trailer and you've found the tractor.

There is a stolen car locator service in Portland Or.

Its a guy in a plane that is always in the air over the city. If he finds your car you send him $350. that was years ago, he worked with the local police in locating vehicles.

You might post a picture of your tractor at the local small plane airport bulletin board for pilots with a reward:)

They probably wont use the tractor outside until the grass starts growing

I hope you find your yanmar & catch the thief on it.

How true! :D Had just such an experience a few years ago, a stolen Kubota found 100 miles away, bought from El Lobo or one of their franchisees for about half of what it was worth. Fortunately it got back home much to the ire of the "new" owner who reportedly paid $10,000 for it. Served him right for not checking it out and buying stolen goods.....there was some speculation he might have even sent them to get it but that was never proven.

Keep an eye on Ebay. I hope it shows up. They should get the same treatment( if caught) as a someone that would steal a man's horse in the o'l west

I'm in Kaufman County, which is just outside of Dallas.

Ok, so it's official I'm an idiot, for some odd reason I can't find the serial number anywhere, although I know I have it on a compact flash card as I took a ton of photos of it - I need to keep looking.

As to photos here are a few

They left the loader forks, so those won't be on the tractor however the loader will have holes drilled for their installation.

It was outside behind an out building, so no it wasn't really visible to others. Someone had to drive up onto our property to see the tractor, so yes this had to have been planned.

Or they knew when you bought it. How long did you have it? Check with local/regional LE about stolen tractors. It's not unthinkable that someone with a connection to the seller, or just some information pipeline (the company that cleans for the seller, or delivers something to them, you get the drift) might then know exactly when and where to look for merchandise. Doesn't have to mean the seller is involved....but if you wanted to steal tractors, wouldn't it be good to do something that put you in proximity to a tractor seller?

A 2wd 2002 with a Bulldog loader is going to be singularly noticeable in that I would bet lots of $$ there aren't 10 of those in the country. Very few dealers other than the reconners even put a loader on 2wd, and the Bulldog seems to be an exclusive of the reconners as well.

Check your seller....if they don't have the serial number and can't provide documentation for you, shame on them. We write the serial # of every unit on the customer's invoice or bill of sale, and we keep records of them. We also advise customers to check their HO insurance, as many policies require a rider to cover a tractor (these are not "lawn mowers").

Come on Marc, throw us a bone. The Possee is saddled and ready to ride. What about a serial number on the mower, or the loader. Any tire tracks behind the shed? Take pictures of the tracks, light at an angle will increase the tread features contrast. What about a plaster cast? Do you have any neighbors? Somebody had to have seen something. No? Maybe they used a horse trailer. They would have to have something with ramps.
What did local law enforcement have to say?

I'm tearing the house apart looking for serial numbers, but I haven't found jack :( I'm going to contact the previous owner and see if he has the serial numbers, or if he can let me know which dealer he bought it from, perhaps they will have the serial number. As to tracks there are none. The only thing left behind was an imprint from a lift gate/ramp, the drag mark from the mowers rear wheel and a razor blade.

I have two real good neighbors and neither of them saw a thing, these thieves must have swept in in the middle of the night and worked quite quickly.

The sheriff was shocked that another tractor disappeared in what normally is an incredibly quite part of the county. The other tractor stolen was just up the road from me on a bigger thoroughfare.

That's another thing I don't get, my street dead ends and has literately no vehicle traffic on it, I could set up a picnic in the middle of the street, yet no one saw anything.

If you had your tractor worked on at a dealer, there is a good chance your numbers are on it :D your paper work

I'm East of you a bit over in Smith and Wood Counties. I'll keep an eye out.
Maybe you could post a notice to another forum at TBN. I don't find a Stolen equipment forum, but might be a nice feature to have.

Have you begun checking the auction houses ? Not just Texas, but LA & OK as well. Wayne (LMTC) knows what he's talking about and if he says that model and configuration is scarce, then you can bet it is.

Texas Auction Guide, Upcoming Sales across the state for auctioneers of farms, antiques, real estate, construction, trucks, art and collectibles. I have a place just south of Terrell. I'll keep an eye out as Yanmars tend to catch my eye when I see one.

Here's a Google search on YM2002*.

If that tractor goes on Craigslist (any of their regional versions) this search should see it.

Yanmar YM2002 * -netto -manuals -.hu - Google Search

Notes:

  • The guy in Arizona has a 4x4 (YM2002D), and the photos prove it. That's not the right one.
  • Tested in Firefox, IE results unknown.
  • You might want to also search on 'Yanmar 2002'
  • It hit on some older pages from legitimate dealers - please don't bother them. Maybe one was the original listing for this tractor when it arrived.
  • It also hit on some pictures of the overseas 'reconditioners' that some might find interesting.
