I am finally going to split the 45 and take care of the clutch. I know it sticks because of the rear main seal leaking oil on the disc and engine oil is dripping out of the weep hole under the clutch. I just looked at just 8ns for parts, assuming the disc is okay would I need anything more than rr main seal and a trans input seal? It has a Sherman stepup, step down, any seals on that to deal with while in there?

Clutch holds great so I plan to just give it a good cleaning and reinstall. Probably put a new starter drive on since mine kicks out occasionally. I heard it is easier to do with the tractor apart.

if I was opening her up and had to split her.. no way i WOULDN'T put in a new clutch.

since your tracgor doesn't have a standard input shaft.. but DOES have a sherman combo, that has a nose of the same dimensions as an input shaft.. wanna bet where that input shaft seal goes? ;)

ps.. bet on the clutch being oil soaked and ruined... (I would...)

Good advice, clutches are at least very cheap for these N's.

Went to start it last night to pull it in the shop and after about 10 revolutions of the engine the starter just quit. It did it once in the summer and after checking all connections and cleaning them with no luck, I was only able to start it by jumping it off a 12 volt vehicle. After I did that the starting system worked again, I hope I can get lucky again and be able to jump it tonight.

i'd look for dirty cables ort bad connections. or weak battery. lastly, a bad manual push switch

I jumped her with my old pickup and brought her to the garage she ran fine. Pulled the pushbutton starter out and that mechanically worked fine. I have focused on the switch with two bolts and two battery cables hooked to it, maybe the contacts are shot.

The condition of the battery cables overall are poor at best, I cleaned the connecting points with a bench grinder wire brush a few months ago so they were still all okay.

I will try and post some pictures, seems it is not possible using my iPhone. image.jpg

grease the contacts and bat posts / cables.. keeps em corrosion free longer.

low current from bad connections burns the contacts inside the big start switch..
