First I want to thank you for allowing me into the group.
Second , I am wondering how many have steiner compact tractors and any difficulties they may have encountered. Myself, I have a 430 max and am generally happy with it. It has developed a charging problem in that it is not charging. I have tested my dynamo and have voltage , now it's off to wiring and grounds because it simply isn't getting from the regulator to the battery. I have my thoughts and if anyone would care to add their experience I would welcome it. Again thanks for including me into the group

Dennis,, we are not gonna let you in the group if you are gonna "Mohn",, (LOL, I guess you do not get told that every day!!?? )
Anyway, there are many on here that can help if you state what type of engine the Steiner has,,
I had a charging problem on a Gravely 24G, with an Onan engine,,
it turned out to be the plug on the back of the ignition switch,,, of all things,,,
The tractor would start, and run perfectly, as long as I kept the battery charged.

When I found it was that plug, I replaced it, and it has been perfect ever since.

The charging circuit is REALLY high amperage compared to the other circuits,, the amps can weaken the connections with repeated heating.

Re: Dennis Mohn

I have a Steiner 420. It's a 1994 with the Onan engine. I've had some wiring trouble in the past with it as the Molex connectors they used aged and then due to vibration some connectors became intermittent. I took them apart and spread the pins a little to tighten them up and used some dielectric grease on them and they've been fine for over 5 years now. You might have a similar situation.

Re: Dennis Mohn

Might want to ask a mod to change the thread topic to be more descriptive of the problem/question, so you get more participation.

Thanks for the reply, Actually my last name is pronounced like John just put an M in place of the J.
My Steiner has the Kubota D722-E. I think the problem is going to be grounding. Good voltage from the Dynamo from low rpm to high getting to the regulator and the reg. is new(doesn't mean it can't be bad)
Kubota and Steiner could both do a better job on schematics
Thanks again for the reply

Re: Dennis Mohn

Thank you I have tested my components, now I'm getting into the wiring. It's a 430 max with the Kubota D722 diesel and had little maintenance before I got it. I worked it hard over the summer and nursed it along until now when I will do the oils and filters and correct the other problems I found with it. I find the bucket hyd. to be a little weak but have been told they are doing what they were designed for. I may look into adding a Cessna pump and res. for bucket work (maybe) . All in all good tractor

I noticed sparks coming from my similar Steiner a year back when starting. Seems the flat ground strap at the front was almost broken. You might want to look at that.

I also notice my charging light coming on, flickering during operation. I also suspect a ground.

Yes, this machine won't win any awards for breakout force going into a pile. Yet it's astounding how the little bugger can push snow.

I had a friend with a Kubota engined machine and a charging problem,,
He bought a "one-wire alternator" off of eBay,, that ended his charging concerns,,

No wire schematic needed,, one wire hooks to the battery,,, DONE!

Oh so true, trying to move mulch or loose stone the bucket could stand lots of improvement. I don't know if it would make any difference if it wasn't tapped off the steering if it would make any difference or not. I do know that when pushing dirt or scalping sod , the torgue and traction is outstanding. I was using mine to regrade some low areas and even though it would not pick up 500 pounds of mulch it would "dozer" through piles of dirt using the bucket tipped to full dump position all day long. . I looked into attachments and they are pricey, I may need to make a few . An actual dozer blade would be nice, and easy enough to make.I might also add I used this machine to backfill and grade the location for the barn where it is currently sitting waiting for winter maintenance.
