My steering wheel position seems to end up in a different place after some use. The knob is often not where it started out. Normal or what?

The steering system is hydrostatic, what you are noticing is entirely normal.

At idle you can turn the wheel slow enough that there will be no movement in the steering cylinder.

Plus 1.... Correct 👍

And it's not unique to Kubota HST's... my JD 4105 does the same. Although, like you, it took me a while to notice that it was happening so your question has merit. :)

It's also the reason I never considered or bought a 'suicide knob' for it; there's no point in having one.

I have a suicide knob. This is my third tractor with HST and a must have for me.

I used a tractor without it last fall for about 40hours (when my tractor was down) and it didn't have the knob. I complained about it to no end!!!

To me it doesn't matter the position of the knob but it assists with quicker steering when needed as well as easier fine tuning the wheels when required. Maybe just a personal thing wether you like them or not. To me it's tough to live without.

Ya..I dont really care where it ends up. I use it all the time. They use to call those necker knobs. You could neck with a girl and drive at the same time. I dont think they are lawful in a car.

Tried it, can't do it. With the knob never in the same spot, you can't always have your hands at 10:00 and 2:00 ! :)

Ah- when my wife had rotator cuff surgery, and had to drive with one hand, I put a knob on her car's steering wheel- saved me from having to drive her around. Maybe not legal, but it worked. Now, it's back where it belongs on the garden tractor. Kubota L3400 has one, as well.
