Steel siding/roofing from Lowes-pricing?

There lots ideas oh how to put it down some like wood slats think the air space is good idea, other over existing shingles, over shingles with a layer of tar paper, heavy over lapped. Next is where and how to screw down, Some say on the seam only to allow for expansion and others on the flats. So my barn is seams only no leaks, house on the flats no leaks. I like seams only and around the edges

There's a warranty when the instructions are followed on the material I used. The drawing shows one screw per flat plus one extra next to seam, then in the seams themselves.

The prices may vary, but that is a big difference. It would definitely pay to shop around. Her is what our Lowes has listed.

It does not have the same model number, and is a different manufacturer. Who knows how they price stuff.....

If I pull up that same item number 24216, I get the same $61 price for a 12' piece which makes $5.08/Linear Foot. I know I get get the same item, same thickness, same color for $2.55 per foot.

29 gauge is very thin and cheap. 24 gauge is best, or even 26, but expect beer cans with 29.

Please don't forget the accessories for the steel sliding, such as self-screw, Butyl tape, and sealant.

I heard that some thinner metal might be as good as thicker because of a higher tensile strength. I rely on known builders that have a good reputation as to what is better.

I would guess that higher tensile strength isn't as important as to puncture resistance and stiffness. My gut tells me to go thicker. Interested in what professionals would say about this.

24 gauge is better than 29... think 2x6 vs a 4x6, which is stronger?

The thinner metal will puncture easier if branches fall on the roof. It also makes a difference if you have plywood decking under the metal vs open purlins. I'm building a 30x40 pole barn this Spring, and using 24 gauge metal with plywood underneath.
