Starts Hard

My 855 starts hard even in the summer. It fires on 1 cylinder Quickly, but the remaining 2 take about 30-40 seconds.

Welcome from Oklahoma. Not giving us a lot to work with here. Has it done this ever since you've owned it, or did it just start acting up? Did the problem just appear one day, or did it develop over a few days/weeks/months? Is overall power reduced? What have you already checked out?

Problems you describe can be related to glow plugs, compression releases, injectors, fuel pumps, low compression, several different things.

I have an 855 and it became harder and harder to start, until one day, it wouldn't start. After checking the fuel system, air cleaner, etc, I did a compression check and found it to be about 1/2 of what it should have been. I shot some oil into the cylinders, retested, and the numbers increased significantly, indicating bad rings. I took it apart and everything looked good (I measured cylinder taper, rod journals and bearings, etc) except the ring end gap which was about 3 times the spec. I honed the cylinders, replaced the rings and rod bearings, had a machine shop surface the head and grind the valves (3 valves were too thin to grind and needed replacing). I bought all of the parts from the John Deere dealer and did all the labor myself except the machine work. I ended up spending just less than $1000 for everything, but it runs great now. The machinist thought that it may have been run in very dirty conditions with a defective air cleaner at some point to cause this. Hopefully, yours will be something simpler and less expensive!

I would check the glow plugs before I got too excited about anything else.:thumbsup:
