Temps were -27 F for the last two nights here. Wind chills got down to -57 the night before last up here, but the winds lightened up a little last night, so it wasn't as bad.

But, there's good news! Temps are already up to -4 today, and are forecast to be in the upper 20's ABOVE zero sometime next week.

I guess a guy could do worse, ya know.

Well, it's a bit cold in the creek too. For those not familiar with the terminology, The Creek is a reference to Goose Creek, S.C., where anything approaching freezing is pretty cold. Our forecast low for tonight is somewhere around fourteen degrees. The last time we saw temps in the teens was in 1989, same year we saw winds in the 130,s with Hurricane Hugo. That's the year the weather went completely nuts though. After the hurricane we had our first white Christmas in over one hundred years. Then we had a one hundred year storm in early February with winds over ninety mph. Weird weather indeed and that was all before we discovered global warming. Back in the early 70's we had a freak rainfall in the summer with extreme flooding, then that winter we had a snowfall of nearly two feet and temps in the single digits. I wonder what we blamed it on back then. By the way, on Christmas day we all wore t-shirts all day long, and thinking back, that's fairly normal around these parts.

The official temperature in Metro Detroit has been just below Zero for the last 3 days. I live on the western edge of the area. Elevation here is just shy of 1000' Detroit is at 600'. Our temperatures have been -15 to -17 F every morning. The only saving factor is little to no wind. This morning dog got me up at 3:00 am to go out. She went out 3' and did her business. Checked the temp on the way back in -16 F again. Clouds are moving in since then and temperature has raised to a balmy -5F.
Talked to a fellow TBN'er in TX yesterday. He needs some help with a project. Temperatures should be in the 60's. I am out of here tomorrow.

This is as cold as I've seen it here:

Actually it says 3.8 now.
Basement wood stove and upstairs fireplace insert both going. I don't think the old heat pump would touch this.

Well the southern blast hit last night. Was -31F at the lowest yesterday and this morning was +12F. An amazing warm up of 43 degrees in one day.

Just remember that these are NORMAL temperatures (if not recently common) for this time of year around here. If the anti-CO2 crowd gets going it will result in these being common. The record according to the radio was -47F and it was that temp for 2 days in 1875 or some such. Brrrr.

By the way, at -30F the foam in the car seat is solid and you have to readjust the mirror up, then 10 minutes later as you melt into the seat, pull it back down!
