You can bet it was a big decision. I've got my place here just right, but the pros won over the cons. I think it will be very hectic until we actually have the new house built and are living there.

I'm shocked, surprised and excited for you. After all you did with your barn, and your pasture, I figured you where there for good.

I've thought about moving to the mountains off and on, but then when we go there, we notice all the little things that we don't want to deal with, and appreciate where we are already. Then after a year or two, the mountains start to sound good again, and the cycle continues. I doubt that it will ever happen, we get more attached to where we are now every year.

I'm looking forward to following your progress and see what you create!!!!

Eddie, I "struggled" with that for 30 years. Finally realized I'm not going anywhere. My Granddaughter is getting married on my farm today. Where would she have the wedding if I lived in Colorado????

I admire Lynn's move. Sounds like he might be moving closer to family rather than away.

We'll share the hectic and stress. It'll be a year before we get our house and shop built on our farm. At least I've only gotta move 6 miles.

It does seem like I've worked more since I retired though.

Yep, I retired a couple of years before my brother and he didn't believe me when I told him that; sure does now. We made our forever move in 1994 from a suburban lot 40 miles away to 300+ acres of mixed row crop, woods and stocked ponds. One of my sons and I lived in an old house trailer on another farm during the build. Sure seems like building a new house takes forever, but I know you and Richard will be happy with your new homes.

Question for all;
When trailering a tractor, would you use chains to tie it down or the ratcheting type straps? All I have now is the straps.

Chains and a couple of binders. Around here the Highway Patrol may pull you over for a heavy wheeled load not chained. The bucket may also have to be secured (if you have one). While I use straps for almost everything, the tractor gets chains.

Chains would be my vote for a drive that far and weight. Four on the tractor, a strap over the FEL if attached to the tractor. If the ballast box is attached to the tractor it also would need to be secured, strap should be ok.

View attachment 549608I posted in a different thread that I have retired. We have now sold our home (under contract) have a piece of land picked out in southeast Idaho and are currently moving to my brothers ranch while we build our new home.
My first purchase to move all my crap was this PJ trailer. It's a 30 footer and pulls real nice. I'll try and keep up to date pictures going of the whole process.
The land is 31 acres in Bear Lake county. It's real secluded with water rights for the whole place. Currently it's planted in alfalfa. We plan to get the house going as soon as possible and a 40X80X16 hay shed with a 50X80X12 equipment barn.
This is one of many loads going north.

My brother has a summer place on Bear Lake. I have never been there but pictures he has shown me are great. He lives in Ogden. His place is on UT end of lake.

Thanks for the replies on how to best transport the tractor. I do have a bucket but it has already been moved. The pallet forks are on now, figured they would be easier to tie down and I still needed them for loading stuff. I'll look into chains and binders.

I'm sure your brothers place is nice, that whole area is. I'll be 10 miles or so north of him and a little west.

While moving the load of hay I had to stop, my truck was in the red on temperature making the climb out of Mink Creek going over Immigration canyon.
When I move the tractor I'll go when it's cooler. Early morning and I should be OK. I did come home and power wash the radiator. :thumbsup: No reason to do it before it heated up right? LOL
