I am currently looking into starting a mulching business and would like to know how some of you got started and if there are any grants or help out there to get you up and going because as you know the equiptment is not cheap.
I forget who had it as a by-line on here but gave me a good chuckle. "fastest way to a small fortune- start with a large fortune and get a mulcher!"
Our biggest local guy with mulch business obtained a contract with the city to have the leaves that the city picks up brought to him. He also receives some other stuff from other sources. Don't think he has to go looking for feedstock. He has a big machine or two that mulches and then windrows the stuff, adding the right amount of water, etc. He sells mulch, compost and soil.
Without this sort of deal, I'd think you'd forever be searching for sources.
Check out Panorama Pay Dirt or something similar.

I must disagree with the others, starting a sucessful business is about you and not anything else. Now is an awesome time to pick up some good equipment, the SBA is very aggresively marketing for new "green" businesses to finance and the country is not bankrupt (yet). Eeveryone still wants a nice place to live and many people have decided to spruce up the current homeplace rather than hunt for a new one. Just be smart and honest, work hard and keep your debt low and you can make it, maybe not in spankin new equipment and trucks but they still can get the job done.
