My Thermostarter Isn't working on my long 2460. what's the easiest and safest way to start it without the starting aid. i know not to use ether.

I,ve heard of using propane on larger machines. Usually a 2 person job , 1 obviously cranking it over while the other put the UN LIT propane torch by the intake . I,ve also used the propane torch to find intake leaks on cars and trucks.

G'day ether is fine to use so long as it is used correctly, crank the engine and while cranking give it no more than a 2 sec shot and it should fire up ok. I will prob get shot down in flames for this but ether is not the big evil it is made out to be, like anything it is fine and useful tool when used appropriately and correctly.

Hey mgram. Sorry to hear your thermostart is not working well. I have trouble with it on my mf25 as well.

Install a block heater! # 1 option!!! 25$ to 75$ depending.

Connect a battery charger before hand to warm up batter and top off before use

Park in a shed even without heat it will be warmer.

Use a propane/ kerosene salamander/ air forced heater near the engine.

If an old machine use an industrial heat gun place inside the air intake

Fresh fuel filters and a number one mix/ or if below zero cold and its an old mechanically injected machine you can add up to 20% kerosene to the fuel. Power service etc is a great anti gel and lowers the ignition temp of fuel for easier starts.

Thinner oil like synthetic 5 w 40.

Know your fuel system!! I adjust my mechanical 56 Massey MF 25 to 1/3 or 1/4 adjustment on fuel. Also use the fuel shuttoff to cut fuel off if engine is beginning to flood. Flooding can be seen when exhaust gets heavy dark and it can be heard.

starting a cold one

I usually do this by "popping the top" (regardless of what I'm repairing etc.)

I must admit, we use brake cleaner at work but that's what we are told to do. And we are using them on 11 liter diesel engines so they can handle it a little better. But what's too much is too much you gotta be careful! I have had good experience with brake clean because it is less flammable than either. Smallest engine I have used it on at work was on a thermo king 2.0 liter 4 cyl. Always always sniff engines WHILE cranking and through the air filter to apply safe amounts. Much much better to use on older lower compression equipment!!! Wouldn't try on 1990s stuff especially kubotas and other high compression engines

Take out the air filter and put a hair dryer into the inlet. This way the motor will be sucking in warm/hot air
