Tractor
Agracat 2920 (JM254)
I have been experiencing an annoying problem when trying to cold start the tractor my Agracat 2940, (JM254). Engaging the key, I sometimes get a loud click as the solenoid hits, but it won't engage the bendix and turn the starter. If I turn the key all the off and back to the start position I can usually get it to finally engage. After the tractor is started once, it works the rest of the day.

Has anyone changed out a solenoid or tried to fix the one on the starter? I have repaired many on my chevys, but I haven't had time to check to see if there is a replacement or US made substitute. I am really impresssed with this tractor.

One of my Jinmas did that right up to the day I got rid of it. Once the outside temp got below 50 at night, the OE starter did the exact same thing you describe. I went through the wiring with a fine tooth comb, even upgrading to 2ga cables. Replaced the ignition switch. No help. I got a replacement starter from the dealer. Same thing. I got a rebuilt starter from AgraCat, same thing. I got a souped up starter from DelJen. Same thing.

Only way I could get the **** thing to engage, was to heat it. Bought a 200w Kat's heater, magnetic and thermostat controlled. Fooled the starter into thinking it was summer, worked just fine. No heater, no start. Stick on the Kat's over night, starts right up in the morning. Down to about 15 degrees anyway, I should have bought the 300w heater.
