Starter Issue

I'm having starter issues with my R3039H.
Has anyone ever removed the starter, and if so are there any tips? My battery is strong, I've cleaned connections with no luck. It sounds like a machine gun, like the drive can't engage.
I'm in a pickle, as the loader and box blade are on the ground, .and I can't move it out of the barn. It doesn't look like there is much room to pull the starter out. There is the hydraulic tube to the power steering less than an inch in front of the starter!
Any suggestions are greatly appreciated!

If getting it out of the barn would make it easier to work on,
on the rear box blade jack it up in the air and run a chain from the tractors top link bracket down to the lowest point on the box blade and that should keep it in the air.
Then on the loader pull the loader raise handle back and hold it back while jacking the loader up, when it's up release the control lever to the centered position and the loader should stay up.

Chances are you won't need to remove the starter. You said that you cleaned the terminals at the battery, but have you cleaned the other ends as well? If they are good and the ground is clean, it's likely the solenoid, which you should be able to get off by itself. There are probably two screws holding the solenoid on, whether you can access them with the starter on the machine is unknown.

Your chattering could indeed be too much resistance in the solenoid circuit caused by dirty terminals at the solenoid or a bad ground in the vicinity. Loose starter bolts can also be a cause of poor grounding as well as the strap from the battery to the frame. Beyond that it could be the Bendix - which definitely means the starter must be removed.
