None of the mulcher in action yet....(I was staying a good ways away)...the lot is 10 acres +/-.

This was a pass or two.......the are remulching some to shred the larger stuff and increase the home/septic site....

My hope is to be able to over seed it with winter rye after they are done and next year plant grass. Not sure if I can do that right over the mulch or not....

Yeah, you would need to get the seed in contact with the topsoil so it will come up. If the mulch has a lot dark soil mixed in you should be ok. You can always try a small area to test the condtions.

how long can the grass seed be on the ground before getting watered?

I would check your local weather channel and pick a rainy forcast to seed. I've used a pto driven, 3 pt, seed spreeder for a tractor before and it made the job real easy.

It's hard to tell for sure without a close-up photo, but some of the trees look pretty damaged around the base. I always struggle with getting too close to trees even when I'm using my rotary cutter. I'd imagine your mulcher could easily girdle the tree and kill it. I'd imagine it is just a case of learning how close you can come to a tree and then having enough self-control to stay outside that distance. The property lines do look very nice. Anyone who has ever cleared property lines will surely appreciate the job you did. Heck, I'd bet the surveyors would be have been really happy if you had done the clearing beforehand.

it looks perfect to me, but maybe I am a little biased . It could of been cleaner but we were running out of time

Great pics!! I really enjoy those before and after shots. Now that you can get in there and mover around, it will be easy for you to maintain it and even widen it if you want at a later date.

As for the grass seed, nature sends out seeds all the time, and they can last years until the conditions are right. I'd put rye down when you're ready for it, and it will sprout a few days after your next rain. The stuff to be careful with is hulled bermuday. If you spread un hulled, it will sit and wait until conditions are right, but hulled needs to be planted just before a rain as it will rot and die fairly quickly without the hull on it to protect it.

I have a question. It was the recommendation of the company doing the mulching to clean up with a skid and a grapple attachment. I am having septic put in and have very little time to work out there. Is there any way if they (the septic contractors) dig in the septic that this large mulch stuff will eventually decompose so I can grass over it? I don't want to put the septic in and then have to run over the lines with a skid to clear the debris. The total area is 150 x220' and the septic is the bottom 50' or so.

Also I notice small brush and stems that were "laid over" and now springing back up......will these regrow next spring, or can I still spray them with roundup or something....when should i do this.

I also have a few trees in the area that have to come down and was hoping to just cut them and grind the stumps or leave them where possible......trying not to have a dozer on the homesite. Can I leave the mulch where the home will be places (mobile home on blocks for now) of will this have to be graded anyway? Any advise is welcomed.

Large Pics to show what I am needing advice on.

You need to follow the reconmendation Chris offered . Skid steer with rake. Skid steer with bucket and teeth. Tractor with rake. You can get this done* for approx. $60.00+ or-. You do not have time for the material to decompose. My 1 cent.

You think a tractor and rake would be enough....... the stuff that is still rooted in the ground....will roundup kill it and if so should I apply now or in the spring?

The reason I was trying to leave it is if I remove it I am afraid the hill will wash away this winter...........kinda the reason for the mulching in the first place. Im going to try and rake the big stuff and leave the smallish stuff.......

Any advise on the trees/stumps or leveling for the mobile home?

Kinda hard to tell from the pics if there's any stumps or rooted material of any significant size or not.

But from the vantage provided it really looks like a landscape rake would do a real good job cleaning up the small stuff on top - IMO.

Then you could burn it or bury it.

How deep did the mulcher go? Reason asking is the root system of the large remaining trees... are they really gonna survive?

Well in the pics there are a few pine trees I was going to remove and just leave the stumps...one is in the mddle of where the mobile home would be sey up....is there any reason to grind it?

The mulcher went about ground level I guess......we did not really mulch many big trees just tons of underbrush and saplings...I don't think it hurt the existing trees as no dirt was dug up. The only reason I am taking them out is they are either where the temp trailer will go,in the driveway area, or behind the house where a hurricaine wind could blow them onto the house.
