Starlink

West Marine has a sale on Starlink right now and I don’t have suitable Internet at home.

Any large files means I have to leave the property to send.

I’m guessing Marine Starlink works anywhere no matter if your boat is in the water or on the trailer parked in the driveway?

The monthly intro rate is $65 but no mention of what it is after the monthly.

I see that Starlink has many different options out now and several plans;
I'm using the older Gen 2 motorized anttenna that I got when I had to put down a $100 deposit and wait then pay the $399 balance before it would ship. My "plan" is $120 month now, it started at $120 then dropped to $90 for awhile and now is back to the $120.
My laptop see's close to 65Mbps down loading and about 25 uploading, today it has a 43 ms latency, usually it's in the 20's.
This limit is my wifi limit which is an 802.11 ac;
While my phone shows it as 106Mbps down and 31 up

I think it may be the only option for some.

I also detest intro rates across the board…

Every time I think SL is running slow it ends up being the device. And as for all the different speed reports, does it really affect what you are doing or watching?

The marine plans tend to be pricey, so if you don't need it for offshore work, I would stick to one of their standard units. Where you live, the rate is likely going to be $120/mo, though you might get a break for the hardware. If you need a referral code, DM me. I think that there refer a friend for free offer expired, but I think that there is a $175 hardware offer going on now.

All the best,

Peter

I’m spoiled at work with multiple high speed access points with some near gig speed.

Home had zero connectivity back in 2017 but as infrastructure improved I pretty much have 1 bar cellular data…

Only really a problem with large files.

Lots of area specials advertised and I signed up once with Comcast and ATT…

Both said they could not honor the install as it did not include underground…

The early adopters were able to run pole to house but now that has changed for new installs…

Exact thing happened to me. There trenching in the fiber conduit as i type. Im going to keep the starlink as a backup on some kind of holding plan. Im looking into them right now. Ive been told they have a $10/ month plan that leaves it in limbo with a small available bandwidth for emergency use only.
If you get some details please post.
I currently have fiber in Ms. w/ 300d/300u and Cox in Va. with 300d/~20u. But I'm keeping my AT&T Mobley at hand because of outages at both places. The Mobley usually gets ~8 down/2 or 3 up, But it beats nothing.
