Starlink

Yesterday we were out and my wife's iPhone received a notification and she was able to view the camera from a remote location.... mystery. Maybe it works sometimes and not others rather than just never.... more investigation to be done.

I view my Swann cameras remotely via my Starlink. The cameras and associated DVR are hardwired to my Starlink router via an Ethernet switch and the Starlink Ethernet dongle.

Have no problems viewing live video ( or playing recorded video) or making system setting modifications remotely.

Viewing cameras remotely would depend on the connection type. If your camera connects to a system which is managed remotely then the connection isn't likely to be direct and it would work. You can connect to the system's management servers which are on the Internet and your system in your home is connecting to them as well. So it is a delegated connection, of sorts. If the device itself were trying to be exposed on the internet with its own directly-accessible IP address then that is what would be a problem due to CGNAT. I'd suspect most camera/security systems would be the former.

This Is how my Reolink system is set up. My DVR is local, no cloud servers or anything like that.
