Standardized \"new used\" tractor check list.
Is there such a thing as a standard checklist to go over when a used tractor is bought? I know it would probably be ideal to take care of that BEFORE it's bought but I just thought of doing something like this. Does anyone know if a formal/semi-formal document like this has been made bfore? Even if it's only sitting out in cyberspace somewhere.
I'm an avid woodworker and there is a process called Dave's Dirty Dozen that documents how to clean a new table saw to get it set up perfectly. It's almost the stuff of lore on the woodnet website I visit all the time (whenever I'm not on here or now that I have one, my tractor). I haven't heard of anything like that on this site.
If it doens't exist would folks be willing to offer ideas? I could put it all in flow charts and then make it available for free to anyone who wanted it. I know I would have loved to have something like that when I was looking. I just got my tractor and it has 1100 hours on it. Even though the person I bought it from said they would change filters/fluids I would rather do it myself so I KNOW it was done and it was done RIGHT. Plus it's a good way to learn more about the machine and how it works. That's where you guys (and gals) might be able to help me.
I'd like suggestions on where to start. All I want is a pretty high level overview of what I should be looking at and checking to make sure this thing is tuned up as best as possible.
Maybe I'll start with some major sub-categories then you can break them down as you see fit. I will document all suggestions as best I can then probably come up with several different versions that can either be voted on to decide on the best or perhaps just leave a couple of "semi-generic" checklists for differnet trannies and such.
I'd like to start with mine! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
Where would you start with the following information?
late 80's early 90's Kubota
Model GL21
Shuttle Shift
3 cylinder diesel engine
4WD
4 speed tranny
4 range (I think? 2 seperate Hi/Lo selectors)
4 speed PTO w/ reverse
Electronic leveling 3 point hitch
Koyker 110 FEL
Major Sub-categories (suggested)
-Mechanicals (Shafts, linkages, etc)
-Lubrication (grease, oil, etc)
-Fluids
-Electrical
-Cooling
-Engine/Glow Plugs
-Tires
Please feel free to suggest more. I think this is a good idea but I can see it getting huge. I work full time, and I have two hobbies I call kids plus woodworking and shooting so I have only a little free time. I plan to see it through though. It might take me a while but I really want to do this as I think it could really help a lot of future buyers. Especially grey buyers (though this list should and will be inclusive).
K, have at it. PM's and emails are okay too. You can use vf171ohio @ yahoo.com (delete spaces).
