Standalone 6ft Wide 3pth Snowblower Power Source?

Thanks for all the reply guys. I dont want to say whats its going to be on just yet. But its not a vehicle or tractor or anything ive seen before for that matter.

There was a mention of blowers that come with a diesel engine already. What are some manufacturers? I would really prefer to buy something rather than fabricate all of this.

It will be primarily used for snow left behind in a driveway from a city plow. So it sounds like 50hp or around that is what I will want.

Hmm, that would pretty much make it a stationary snowblower.

Unless it's towable and you've never seen a trailer before.

This size is what you mostly see. A serious and expensive unit that takes the same to push it around and a township or airport type of application.
On the opposite side of the the spectrum would be something for a side by side ATV or quad and gasoline powered but affordable.

Depending on the amount and type of packed snow you are likely to need ice breakers/clod busters and considerable hp for the width.

Why wouldn't you just buy a 30" or so, gas, self propelled blower? Then and do a few passes? Seems the simplest answer to your question to me?
That being said if it's wet dense snow a consumer blower, ( or even a PTO blower has a hard time chewing that stuff up and spitting it where you want it.

If it's for yourself and you have health/mobility or age issues, (also someone above said no PTO on your tractor). A 3PH dump bucket would do what you need, and much more cheaply. for that matter. Or fab a 3PH mount on a frame with 2 30" blowers mounted to it side by side, and you have your 5' blower, and the ability to dump the snow higher than 18" when the banks by the road build up.
You could even pair up the controls, and yank the drive chains as they would not be needed. just chute angle and direction, and throttles.

This time of year there are tons of good used in town blowers for sale for cheap, too!

I would suggest buying an older cheap 60hp tractor with independent pto, the separate engine idea is too complex

If that is the only task for this blower, find yourself a compact or subcompact tractor with a loader and bucket. Street plows leave very heavy and deep snow and blowers don't work so well on that. They work best on dry light snow. A bucket will make short work of that without strain or risk and will be helpful for many other tasks.

Sorry if this has been answered before. But I will be getting a 6ft wide 3pt hitch snowblower and I wont be running it off a tractor so I need a power source for it. Seems like my best option would be some sort or air cooled engine. My question is how much power would I need?

Im thinking a 30hp gas engine would be enough. If I go diesel does it still need to be 30hp or can it be 25hp because the torque comes in at lower rpm?

Speaking of rpm does the blower require 540 rpm? If my gas engine has peak torque at 3600rpm does that mean i will need to reduce the rpm from the engine with some sort of gear box?

Any information would be a great help.

Berco has been making powered snowblowers for alot of years and has a very good reliability and quality rating by their owners.

for their current 72" blowers they use a 22hp Honda gas motor connected to a 4 blade 15" impellor.
