1999 new holland 555E
I have a 1999 555E new Holland backhoe that has developed a weak stabiliser issue, and a steering issue. All other hydraulics work fine, however, the stabilisers go down very slow, and will no longer lift machine, and, the steering is hard, and sometimes will spin freely without moving tires. Any ideas?

Any leaks/weeps evident ? Sounds to me on the steering you're loosing pressure through one of the banjo bolts....it may need retorquing & replacement of the copper sealing/seating washers

Do you have any visible leaks?

Your spool for the stabilizer is supposed to hold when in neutral.

If it does leak down more than normal, the seals in the cyl are probably worn.

You can check for worn seals by installing a needle valve in the cyl circuit on the suspected stabilizer and extend the cyl, and then shut off the needle valve. If the stabilizer descends, then you know the
cyl seals are worn.

If the cyl holds the cyl in place, then the spool for that cyl is leaking.

Do you have good pressure in the hyd system?

These are hyd test sets made up by TBN members. Cost about $30
