SSQA Snow/dirt plow blades

Made my own using an ancient PU truck plow. Yes I have the JD QA plates, but the skid steer plates are cheap, then just add some pins. I don't even use the 3rd function anymore. I borrow the curl circuit one a specific angle is planted. I had to get used to the length out front.

Since then, I've gone to using a 60" broom for snow on my lawnmower (JD-1435) 90402086.jpgIMG_20221111_095321_01.jpg20231231_171927.jpg

I have used both style mounts and I really prefer a direct mount on the tractor instead of a loader mount. As another responder said the long set up on a loader tends to push the tractor around.

I bought a used 9' blade in good condition for around $400.00 and made my own mount. I use the loader valve to control the lift and power angle.

Get a V-plow with a trip for snow.

I've used SSQA FEL mounted plows on all 7 of my Kubota tractors plowing my 1.25 mile sloped private road. I'm currently using an 8' Land Pride plow on my MX5800 and L6060. I've had great results using chains on the front tires only. My BIL uses the same plow on his M59 and it works just as well.

Yes, the plow sticks out in front and can cause deflection issues, but I find they are easily overcome by lifting the blade slightly. this adds weight to the front tires and gains traction. I particularly like that you can pile snow to heights of 10' or more if necessary.

I plowed with a pickup for years but find using a FEL plow is much faster, more maneuverable, and more convenient. It also puts the work on a machine designed for the purpose rather than beating the heck out of an expensive pickup.

TTWT sure likes the direct attach plow VS the FEL attached plow.

Google "Minnesota Implement," go to their site, and then "snow removal" Snow Removal to see light weight, standard duty, heavy duty, and super duty cross draw snowplows. Scroll down for videos.

I have a standard duty 7' cross draw plow for my Kubota L45. Yaw (rotation about the vertical axis) or Power angle is provided by the front remotes; pitch (rotation about the transverse axis) is provided by the loader control of bucket; and roll (rotation about the longitudinal axis) or "tilt?" by intentional slop in the design (see video). I have no mechanical complaint about the attachment and will recommend Minnesota Implement. My son has a surfeit of unconsolidated 3/8" crushed stone on his driveway. Despite fabricating 11 x 15" skids to try and float the plow, both the plow and the skids bulldozed those stone chips leaving a pile of chips and two ruts in what remained.

YES! ^^^ He has many good ideas in his plows and he would surly be one place to look into!

TTWT sure likes the direct attach plow VS the FEL attached plow.

He says in the video the plow mount blade is too heavy when plowing in the float position.
Anybody that has tried to use a loader mounted snow plow with the loader in float position for more than 2 minutes pushing any amount of snow knows it doesn't work.
Take the loader out of float and raise some pressure off the front blade and the problem goes away.
Simple.

What if your driveway isn't flat? Even being out of float it doesn't change the fact that the geometry doesn't work with a FEL as the force pushes up at an angle to the FEL pivots. That will always want to raise the front wheels off the ground. A direct mount plow on a tractor or truck pushes STRAIGHT back to the frame, not up to a point 5 feet off the ground.

I've been plowing with a FEL mounted snow plow for decades.
It never try's to raise the front wheels off the ground !! ( If you have the loader in float it will, I never use float it doesn't work, been there/tried that )

Not sure of the geometry but I've never had a problem keeping the front wheels on the ground plowing snow with a FEL plow. Maybe I'm just lucky?

My ssqa plow has some slop built in that once the blade weight is on the ground, the fel weight is not. No problems riding up, and I just feather the fel over elevation changes. Im sure a floating frame mount plow is easier to plow with, but really the loader feathering is a non issue for me.

When my loader mounted plow begins to push the tractor one way or the other I correct it with the steering brakes

Anyone that wants one I'd be more then willing to sell my blade. It's an 8 footer.

Not really looking for dual purpose. It will be used in the snow and maybe a bit on rough ice.
I have no plans to use our good tractor like a bulldozer in the dirt.
I just mentioned snow+dirt because the one I saw years ago was advertised that way.

What I'm wondering about is how well does it work? Does it need skids? What are the downsides? Can you see the edge? Part of what I need to do is work around bushes and trees, and scrape down to ice if the snow is compacted.

I don't see many tractors equipped with a SSQA blade and wondered why.
Mine is sold as a snow/ dirt blade. Your supposed to install bolts to secure the spring tilt. Never used that way, never will either.

Been using it on my dk45 for snow though for 14 seasons. Works great. Only side to side movement, not tilting.

I dont use float mode either, as it tends to lift front wheels. I also always chain up front wheels. Mine never moves tractor while plowing off to the side. It will move without the chains.
