SS stuck in snow twice, tire chains?

/ SS stuck in snow twice, tire chains? #21
I learned the hard way, only in mud. Wheels did have some openings so I threaded a heavy 1/2"nylon rope through and around as much as I could. I then found a 6' length of old chain link fence and jammed it under the rear tires ( I was stuck nose down is a mud bog). I got just enough traction to get up on the chain link and out I went. Try some old fencing.

Now as to a final solution some of the track sets do work, but a contractor friend had issue with jumping out of them. He did finally find one that worked, but I do not know the brand - they have a heavy center track the tires rid in and tensioners that can snug things up. He drives the heck out of his equipment, so I would not judge his luck against the norm. Otherwise there are a lot of chain sets out there, some very aggressive with big studs.. Check out Quality Chain.

Since he is stuck in the yard those probably wouldn't have helped.

Commercial operators pitch the stock wheels and tires and pick up a winter set of tires and wheels. As the video shows, tighter turning, much more aggressive operation and faster plowing speeds.

Remember he is now stuck in the yard.

But what if there is no Tree :D

Sorry could not help

Solution is to drive some heavy form pins or other steel into the ground and hook as low as possible with a com-a-long or other device. or a good neighbor with a 4x4. A bribe of a cold beverage around here works wonders:thumbsup:

BTW good price on that tool that I now need to get :D

Idea for an anchor:

Use a piece of rectangular or square tubing at least two inches thick, 3 or 4 feet long. Drill a row of 3/4 inch holes through it at about 6 inch intervals. Loop, like a U-bolt, welded on one end.

Lay it on solid ground and drive 24+ inch concrete form stakes through all the holes. Put a nail in the stake's top hole so it can't go through, or the tube lift off.

Pull on it with a come-along or winch.

I remember that. Trying to prevent that happening again. Tool for getting unstuck solo? A 5 ton chain winch and a tree.
I doubt that would be enough sole. Depending on how much he is buried and how big of a SS he has. If you had a second operator to operate the skid steer and the chain hoist it would probably work.

Edit. This SS only weighs about 4,000 pounds. A 5 ton chain hoist should be able to pull it out. Without spending any money him and an assistant should be able to pull it out with his truck.

I got stuck once like the OP did with a rented SS. It was nosed in soft ground with a bucket full of dirt. After sizing up the situation, I took advantage of the lack of rear wheel contact to put some timber & boards across the back end then I tipped back the SS to level out the wet ground and placed some more timber & boards under the front. Got me out of a jam. I just did it slowly.
