Spreading just a tiny amount of road salt?

Fertilizer is quite corrosive.

Yes it is, but easier on the lawn and plants. Yes you can over fertilize and burn, but it doesn’t take much salt to kill plants.

Neither is sodium chloride. The proof is all along northern roadsides.

Many of the recommended spreaders will work fine. I would definitely stay away from any type of salt product.

Sand, pit run, saw dust. I've even used wood pellets - the stuff used for pellet stoves.

While it won't melt the ice unless the sun is out....for traction aid on ice I have not found anything better than the ashes out of a woodburner

We have local environmentalists taking samples of stream waters near roads to test for salt contamination (maybe this happens in your area, too). They are finding salt levels above that of ocean salt water after road salt has washed off. They are also reporting the killing of wildlife and harm to stream ecosystems from it.

Maxwell House? The blue can? Doesn’t work near as well as the red Folgers.

Is the Maxwell can metal or plastic? The metal can will rust from the salt while the plastic Folgers can will last for years, unless it cracks. The metal Maxwell can is less likely to crack though. Does it matter whether it is regular or decaf? I would imagine that some here may have strong opinions on that and I would like to hear from them. Still trying to decide and snow is coming.

Those Maxwell house blue plastic tubs with snap-on lids are priceless for storing nuts, bolts, feed, salt, etc.
Feel guilty throwing them away! Lol

Mine is plastic. Decaf?? It’s got to be regular, you put salt in one of those decaf cans and it will lose its effectiveness.

I finally had to quit saving plastic tubs - margarine, ice cream, coffee, cottage cheese, yogurt, etc. They have taken over my laundry room. Wish I could find a good use for some of them. Decaf coffee - like lying on your back and letting the moon shine in your mouth.
