Went to Wal-Mart today... Went thru the self check out. No hate, no discontent, no inefficiency, and no stinking carousel. 
Oh, I talked to a guy from the mobile rig in the truck as I pulled into the parking lot. He was in Slovenia. S51DX.

8 sacks, and I didn't put the 1 gallon jug of water in a sack.
Self check out for me, every time. No worries about carousels or if the kid bags canned goods on top of bread. Easy peasy at my pace, which varies from day to day.

Finally made a grocery run after 3 weeks. The Walmart checker spun the carousel BOTH WAYS!!

Boy you opened a can of worms with this thread. And a Aussie learned about American shopping. And I got to hear a Canadian say something disparaging about Canada.
IDK why they even ask "Do you want your milk in a bag? And when they ask if I want my 5lb bag of potatoes in a bag I say, "No, it's already in a bag. Lets save a tree." [I think kids today think plastic bags grow on trees]
FWIW I don't do real shopping at Wal-Mart; at most 4-5 items. We have a fine grocery store (Giant), and a Sam's club which sells discount gas. And they are both on the outskirts of the town (Mechanicsburg) so I don't have to put up with the traffic.
And at Giant they scan and go right into the bag, which they then place on the counter and I load it in my cart. The cashiers are fast and polite. I'm very happy to not have to rely on Wal-mart for my grocery needs. We only shop once every two weeks.

I can remember when a quiet drive in the country was litter free, except the occasional beer bottle in the ditch...now I see plastic bags in trees, fences, etc. so I can see why they might think they grow on trees...it looks like they do.
