This might help.

The big and the small Bernie's Basics (ABC Science)

Besides, viruses being exhaled will most likely be surrounded by droplets of water, which will collect on the mask of the one exhaling. O

Sort of like a third grade science lesson...note the picture at the top right of the page...it states that bacteria is ten times bigger than viruses...Body odor is caused by bacteria and you can plainly sense body odor through most masks...

Manager probably said to spin it clockwise but that probably confused them as they only use digital clocks.

I hadn't thought of that. :)

They probably spin it that way so they don't get pinched between the carousel and the table.

Most of the checkers at my local store will spin it towards the customer for the reasons I stated. Of course most of them are older and actually have some common sense. So if they are actually told to spin it clockwise (as viewed from the top) then the majority are ignoring their training. I doubt there is a Wal-Mart directive at all. I could be wrong, perhaps someone that has insight into Wal-Mart policy could comment here. What I think is that once a person takes a stand and makes a statement, even if it is a lie, they tend to stick with that statement till the last dog is dead. I have seen that countless times here on these forums. A guy makes a statement, and even if he knows it was a stupid, erroneous statement, they tend to stay with it so as not to appear weak and feckless.

Why not talk with the store manager and see where that gets you? While you're at it, see if they can open more check out lines.

I’ve experienced the same thing as OP, or they leave a bag on carousel, and only hand you one.
I take the more cynical view that they want customer to not see a bag or two and leave the store without their merchandise. It’s pure profit.

Maybe the kid just didn't like you.

We only use self-check at walmart. Another local store has the carousels. Some spin it towards you, and others away from you. I do know what you mean. It's faster if they spin it towards you as you don't have to wait for the 4th or 5th bag to come around before you start loading. But in the big picture, it's not that much time extra at the end. Maybe a minute at most.

I think this is correct. I don't go to Wal-Mart but our local Meijer has the same arrangement. It also lets the checker load up more bags that you can pick up while still being in front of the credit card terminal. Then, while you're getting the rest of your bags the checker can start with the next customer. If it rotated the other way, your bags might go past you while you are getting your card, refund slips, etc out.

Yep. Meijer store is where we go as well for this. That, and the 1 penny dinosaur ride for the kids...

Agreed, yes only a minute for her to stand there idle, while I have to rush to load the filled bags into the cart. No big deal right? Agreed, no big deal, but it is a minute for her to rest and do nothing. Add it up over a days time, and all of those minutes, COULD mean that 5 checkers that spun the carousel counterclockwise might be able to do the work that 6 checkers spinning the carousel clockwise. hm... think of the money savings, or profit on the other end. Get rid of her job!

A time and motion study guy would have a field day with her.
