Yesterday I used one of my new safety spout diesel cans for the first time, and even with the spout rigged to stay open, the fuel flow is really slow compared to the older fuel cans. Although I have posted a thread about the gadget I use for filling my Deere so I don't have to hold the can as it empties, I thought I would repost it showing how well it works with a safety spout can. The only way to get one of these (censored) new cans fully emptied using my support is to block up the can when it has about a gallon left in it. And this sure beats holding onto the can for the ten minutes it takes to empty.

Just be sure your fuel tank will hold the contents without overflow because it's hard to get a partially empty can back upright without spilling...me bad, these new cans were supposed to stop any spillage.

Good idea. I thought the JD has tank cap fillers through the hood? I'll have to post how I fill mine.

The link you provided wouldn't work, perhaps because of the  too close to it. Did a Google search....$32 per 5 gallon can? BLEEP. Radioman, my Deere filler cap can be accessed with the hood up or down but I have never fueled it with the hood down because it would be a HUGE PIB balancing a full 5 gallon can for more than a minute or two.

I just use the spout as a cap and take the whole thing off when I fill my tractor. Works great.

The word "counterproductive" comes to mind here Bill!

What is this hatch used for?
Even so a terrible place for a fuel tank.
I don't like those new cans either. I have a couple for gasoline that are the same shape. The older plastic gas cans are wider at the bottom than the top which makes them ride without tipping over in the truck bed regardless of how they are turned.

JD 227 is the hood on the John Deere steel or plastic.? Here is what I do and also did on my Kubota's.

1: make sure the dust is brushed/blown off lightly from the hood
2: Place an old soft towel on the hood, right by the filler cap/cover.
3: Lift up the Blitz equipped safety nozzle 5 gallon diesel can onto the hood on its face with nozzle pointing in the middle of the filler neck..with the Kubota's since the neck protudes up thru the hood, rest the neck protrusion catch on the edge of the tank's neck.
4: Release the safety mechanism and hold the lever sqeezed with one hand.

This is not a big deal and you do not have to hold any can for more than a couple of seconds to lift it up to the hood.. Of course you hood probably needs to be made of good steel, to not dent or crack. I have never had any trouble with 2 Kubota's and 1 Kioti. The old soft towel prevents any scratches on the hood. The new Blitz filler is better than the old flexible neck cans because you would spill diesel all over the hood with this method, but no diesel comes out until you release the safety and press the lever. Life is good.:)
