When I venture out to look at something else all I want to do is go home. Guess it depends on what home is? What type property are you confined to?

I have plenty here to do I just like going out and going to tractor supply or wherever to look at other things. I have 20 acres so I don稚 run out of room.

2 months short of 4 years into retirement, have been as busy every day as I care to be. Projects that I start now get finished, something that somtimes took way longer when I was working for a living. I haven't regretted retiring for second!

I guess I have enough chores to do around to keep me busy and I put enough money in the right spots to live comfortably..

That's part of the "problem"...since I've (mostly) retired I've taken up some new hobbies, activities, etc. and that's required money. For example, I took up snowmobiling and decided to learn to weld. Had to buy a snowmobile, welder, and all the accessories. I'm glad I did, but as someone who's always been very conservative financially I don't want to take chances.

Since retiring, I've often wondered how I ever got anything done while I was working full time, especially projects that needed to be finished in a timely manner once you started them (a new roof for example). Of course, you can work at a slower pace rather than needing to cram it all in over a weekend or vacation week.
Other retirees I've spoken to say the same thing.

One thing that bugs me a little bit about retirement is that there seems to be the expectation that you will want to travel. Maybe some do, but I'm kind of a homebody...I like sleeping in my own bed every night. Then again, for many years I had a job that required a lot of traveling, and I kind of burned out on it.

Amen to that !

Got some fence somewhere in a wooded section apparently needs fixing (cow got out yesterday....moved them to another section of pasture last night, haven't walked the fence yet) Got a mini-split heat pump ordered I need to put in before it gets too hot. Got a 'gut-to-the-studs' remodel of the master bath room planned AFTER we get two pigs slaughtered and in the freezer. Want to add some more solar panels to my system this fall. Garden ALWAYS needs tilling/weeding in addition to mowing/weedeating around the place. Shop building needs painting. Need to slaughter steer for the freezer this fall. 4 cords of firewood to log out, cut/split/stack for winter of 2022 (or rotation gets out of order) 30 older layer hens need to go in canning jars about September when the new flock starts laying. 4yr hoop house plastic is 4 yrs old now, gonna need to replace it. Wife wants some furniture built for the house (table, hutch etc)....that will tie up some of the cold weather time.

So what are you going to do in your spare time ??
I always find that I have so much to do I wonder how I ever had time to go to work. Been retired for 20 or so years now and still haven't caught up

I guess it depends on ones retirement income.. I have hobby's as well that include money, not a problem because I figured all this stuff in before I retired..

I most certainly did. From the very beginning and in every contact.

I haven't decided yet if I'll make contact with the state's utility overseers.

So in every contact you communicated you were retired and bored and that is why you contacted them. If you were the hiring person, you would never hire a person such as yourself.

You are now contemplating a complaint against the company? You are not even hired but are already a malcontent. My suggestion: stay retired!

Transparancy goes both ways. Did you inform them that you are retired and bored. Just looking for something to do.

I'm with Oversized, I'd never hire a part timer who was 'Retired and Bored." You usually get want you paid for.

Since he absolutely, positively won't disclose his location, I can only hope he's not in Missouri. My cooperatives have more important things to do than waste their time defending against a trivial complaint.

We're getting off track. This is not about who a company would hire or not or for what reasons. This is about whether or not someone would apply to a company who is evasive about even the most basic details of a job listing.

If that is true, your answer is "no," and you would have moved on to greener pastures long ago. And never opened this thread.

Instead, you are venting over whether you have the authority to demand and change how a 3rd party company chooses to operate. That answer is also no.

Agree.

Likewise, why would I apply for a position having no idea what it is?
I see plenty of ads 'seeking ambitious person for progressive company, no experience necessary', what does it mean, no idea!!

... just more or less because you're bored and feel like you could use a few extra bucks.

You find a position listed that looks interesting in a field you have some experience. The listing is very basic, no real details. Before you apply, you want some additional information. You contact the company with a list of questions about working conditions, training, pay, scheduling and so on. They waffle on every one of their replies.

  • 'It's a basic setup, but we don't allow prospective applicants to view the workplace.'
  • 'We don't discuss pay, not even a general range.'
  • 'We're not sure what training will be involved, when, or where it might be.'
  • 'We're working on new scheduling and we're not sure what it will work out to be yet.'

Am I the only one who would no longer consider applying?
Sounds like the position is for a mule in a drug running operation.

The normal way to go about getting a job would be to apply, if they call you for an interview and you meet with someone that’s interested in you and you’re qualifications your questions will be answered at that point.. You don’t contact them and ask them about working conditions, pay scale etc, if you have experience in the field I’m sure you already know a round about pay scale.. Apply if you’re interested in a position somewhere instead of contacting them, and then complaining on the internet..

I've started many potential hobbies on the cheap at first, buying well-used so I can bail out of that activity at what I paid for it. Then later after I have some experience, make a decision whether to buy quality and put some real money into it. Simplest example from long ago: my first 4x4 was a thrashed $500 Willys Wagon. After a little experience I went and bought, new, an Isuzu Trooper that was about the same thing except it was reliable and had A/C. A few years ago I started with a $50 ancient stick welder. Then a better, but used, modern welder after I learned what I need for my projects. Retirement hobbies don't have to be expensive when you now have time to try out various alternatives. My savings balance is about the same as it was 20 years ago when I retired. Early retirement was the best decision I ever made.

I applied for a Summer job when in college; the details were fuzzy, to say the least, and on the 2nd day of orientation it became clear that we would be selling encyclopedias door to door. I turned in my shat and took a job laying storm sewer.
