When laws are so complicated and obscure that even good honest people find them hard to follow.....or when they are so ridiculous that good honest people seek ways to quietly break them.....then they are bad laws.

How hard is that to figure out?

Alabama has a law (Title 40, Chapter 7, Code of Alabama 1975) that taxes all property used for business. My mother runs a sewing business out of her house Mimi's Sewing Boutique . One year after she bought her business license (gotta have one) she got a notice in the mail that she had to fill out this form http://www.revenue.alabama.gov/advalorem/forms/ADV-40%20(6-07).pdf and include a copy of her tax returns from the year before. Basically is she uses it for the business and depreciates it on her federal income tax return as an expense she has to pay a tax on it to the state.

My friend that owns a Branson dealership Hilltop Tractor Parts Equipment & Repairs said that he paid several thousand in taxes on the tools that he uses to repair tractors.

BTW, Farmers are exempt, but if you used your tractor commercially and bought a business license (i.e.: landscaping on the side) you would probably have to pay the tax on your tractor. Not sure.

Are you kidding me? I've never heard anything so asinine.

The easy way around it of course is to bury your downspouts to get the water away from your foundation, as many inspectors recommend, but just have a dummy outlet and the real pipe go into your cistern....

Nope, it's true
water rights are very odd out here and extremely strict.
heck, if you have water rights on a ditch and you don't call for water in a particular period of time (8 years? 10 years? something), they take the rights!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
and trust me, shares are extremely expensive.

If you have a ditch out here in the east, someone will call it a 'wetland'. As the owner of a 'wetland', the term 'owner' is a mere formality.

And good luck, if someone photographs a cattail in it...

You should see the nonsense I and others in our neighborhoods have been learning about the Special District form of Small Government in Colorado as it pertains to our water department. I won't bore everyone with details and if I did, I would probably overload TBN's servers.

Let's just say that what was a good idea in 1949 has been perverted by the clown that runs our water department that I feel like I live in a company town in 1849 renting substandard company housing at inflated prices, and buying shoddy goods from the company store at ridiculous prices.

My wife and I will be glad when we get out of here, and it won't come soon enough to suit us; but we are working on our escape.

Apparently all you need in Kentucky is a pair of bib overalls and 3 or 4 teeth, 'cause I've seen more'n one example out on our roadways! ;)

Well I got the bib overhalls but I am glad that Tn does not have that teeth rule.

Lone Cowboy, as you have a lot more experience with this, what is the Colorado requirement for licensing if you drive your tractor on the road? I am thinking of driving to a friend or neighbors place (2 or 3 miles max). Orange triangle presumably.

I suspect there are members of the Taliban huddled in some cave near Tora Bora who would shake their heads in disbelief at the harshness of that one!

Its insane, stupid, ignorant,Government crap rules that the Terrorist are going to finally realize that this is the best way to destroy the USA. All they have to do is just look at these stupid rules and think of something more ridiculous and our leaders Demo and Rep will panic and cry and pass even more stupid laws. The Terrorist will still be holed up in the Afghanistan mountains laughing and smoking seashea pipes. I spent some time in Iraq and trust me the Terrorist are pretty clever. So I will make a prediction that powder milk will be the next Homeland Security scare tactic then after that good Ole American Corn on the cob will be considered a weapon of mass destruction. Sad thing is that our police and sherrifs officers are just as stupid and will be enforcing these soon to be upcoming issues. Powder Milk and Corn just wait its going to happen.

When I bought my 4200, the salesman told me that if I take it out on public roads, make sure the SMV triangle is clearly visible on the tractor, and that the flashing lights do not replace the SMV placard.

I regularly drive mine a couple of miles to a friend's house on public roads and unfortunately I have to use a 40-MPH road that the residents of my neighborhood think is a racetrack. Knock on wood, I've had no close calls; but I do drive on the paved shoulder with the SMV emblem visible and the lights flashing. Having mirrors helps a lot to see what cell phone yakking fool is coming up behind me.
