So..what's an acre go for in your area?

It all depends on the usability of the land and how many lots they can carve out of an acre. Here in So. Cal near my suburb home, it goes for about $1 million per acre. $1000 per acre for my rural property in the sierra foothills of central Cal. However, it's an AG preserve and zoned for only 1 home with a size limit of 2500sqft and other restrictions. Under the current zoning, my 120 acres has no possibility of plitting into smaller parcels. About a mile from my land where the zoning is 2.5 ac per lot, they go for about $50k per acre. As you can see, land in the same general area can worth 50x more just because of zoning. Pure AG land still ralatively cheap just about everywhere.

I'm in SC. I have no idea what land for development is selling for....don't have any, don't want any. But, just plain old mixed timberland is selling for over $2000 an acre in the rural piedmont. A 220 acre tract that we'd leased for 20 years just sold at that level. It had been clearcut and replanted. Pines are about 20 feet tall now.

I bought my 240 acre tract about 6 years ago. It is much better land with a mix of hardwoods, planted pines of various ages, a 10 acre pond and a nice creekbottom. I paid about half that.

I'll never sell it, but it is nice to know that what I thought was a scary and risky expendature could double my investment at any time if things got tough for me.

It is mostly hunting and timber that are driving the prices, but being squarely between Charlotte and Columbia, growth is certainly a growing possibility.

16 acres next door = 2,000,000... no lawn mower required... about 5 houses per acre. 58 acres next door = 3,000,000 flipped two months later for 5,000,000... small yards. 265 acres about two miles away 7,000,000... new hospital being built.

8 years ago we bought our 10 acres for approx $6000/acre. Today, land in the vicinity (if you can find any for sale!) is going for $25,000/acre. Closer to the city that price jumps up in a hurry!!!!

There was a 2 acre lot for sale a month ago for $365,000. "City" sized lots (less than 1/3 of an acre) are going for $200,000+

It's pretty crazy. Wish I had seen it coming

Land southside fort worth, tx is going for 30,000 acre and if you live off some roads it is commerical and that is going for 2.50 square foot and I have 3 acres for sale commerical and it will sell for about 325,000 and we gave 1500.00 32 yrs ago.

30 miles outside Portland, OR, 18 mi. from the nearest town of any significant size, 2 acres on an airport goes for $200,000. A little closer to Portland, you might get a 1 acre lot, if you could find one, for $200K. In a subdivision in the burbs, it takes $200K to just buy the 6,500 sq. ft. lot.

In Independence, OR, a small town 15 mi. west of the state capitol, on another airport, I bought a 17,000 sq. ft. lot 2 1/2 years ago for $85K. It is now worth about $185K.

Wow... the only thing saving me is zoning. It is a matter of time before before it hits me. I estimate less than 5 years. Lots up the road are zoned residental.

One kid has big dreams for the farm, too bad for them. But I don't speak negative about someones dreams.....

In Catt County NY the least I've recently seen for 75+ acres is $350,000 so thats ab out $4750 per.

I was just speaking about land values in France last week. A friend who has family in the Champagne area told me that farmland goes fo 1 million Euro a Hectar. If you figure 2 acers to a hectar and .70 US Dollars to the Euro that comes out to $650,000 per acer. Here in southern France land is high. A piece of land next to us with water and electic, I would say about 2 acers was offered to us for 200,000 Euros. we didn't buy it but a young reltor did.

I don't know how much we paid per acer because the puchase came with the house and barn and Guest House, 2 tractors and a bunch of implements and bsically everything required in olive farming, along with 1,462 prime olive trees. At the time in 2004 we paid $1.3M In the back of my mind I keep thinking we over paid but nobody else seems to think so and that land right next to us, i'll bet did sell for 200,000 Euros, so hopefully I'm wrong. We do live in a very upscale communty and have the unique postion of owning agricultural property in town, well it is way on the edge of town a city of 40,000 people. I guess we'll never sell though, our son wants to take over the olive farm when we eventually retire.

The last acre that sold on my road was $ 350,000.00 about 6 months ago, just a bare lot.
